Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had a drink of water after weighing out which may have explained for the discrepancy in weight. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that N.J. Ryan was in breach of Rule 230(iii). Having considered his clean record in this regard, they cautioned him on this occasion.
126E T.C. Cullen Memorial Novice S'chaseThe Raceday Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Ta Na La (USA), ridden by S. O'Callaghan, and trained by T.M. Walsh. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accompanied by Brendan Brady, Authorised Representative for the trainer. S. O'Callaghan stated that his instructions, issued directly from the trainer, were to jump off and get his mount settled as she can be very free in her races. He further added he was told to get her jumping well, come home the best she could and not to use his whip. The Raceday Stewards also received a report from the IHRB Veterinary Officer who reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for further analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that both rider and trainer were in breach of Rule 212.(A)(ii)(in that the rider was not seen to have attempted to obtain from his mount timely, real and substantial efforts to achieve the best possible place). As a consequence, they suspended S. O'Callaghan for 14 racedays, ordered that he forfeit his riding fee and fined T.M. Walsh €3000 in accordance with the guidelines and taking their clean records into account. Furthermore, they suspended Ta Na La from running for 60 days under the provisions of Rule 212C(D).
The IHRB Veterinary Officer reported to the Raceday Stewards that he received a report from the groom of Ta Na La, that the animal coughed a few times after being sampled.
Mr. T.M. Walsh, trainer, reported that Ta Na La (USA) was scoped by the Racecourse Veterinary Surgeon on course and was found to have a Grade 2.5/5 amount of blood within the horses trachea.
