F.J. Bowles Referral

The Referrals Committee, Dr. Gordon A. Holmes (in the Chair), Mr. P.J.A. O’Connor and Mrs. J.O. Onions, met at the Stand House Hotel, The Curragh, Co. Kildare, on Tuesday, 23rd January, 2007, to consider a referral from the Acting Stewards at Downpatrick on 28th August, 2006, when following a Stewards Enquiry into possible interference Mr. F.J. Bowles, who trained one of the horses involved, was alleged to have been abusive towards Lorcan Wyer, Steward Secretary.  The Committee heard evidence from Mr. F.J. Bowles, Trainer, Lorcan Wyer, Steward Secretary, and W. Fleming, Turf Club Official.

Having considered the evidence, the Referrals Committee found Mr. Bowles to be in breach of Rule 272 and fined him €1,000.  They further instructed Mr. Bowles to pay €500 towards the costs incurred by the Turf Club in hearing the case.

The case was presented to the Committee by Mr. Brian Price, Wilkinson and Price Solicitors, Naas, Co. Kildare.
