Equine Influenza Vaccination Intervals – Reminder of changes coming into effect 1.1.23

We wish to remind Trainers that on 1st January 2023, the changes to Rule 91 which came into effect in Ireland on 1st January 2022 will be fully in place after transition through 2022.  This means that from 1st January 2023, all horses must have had a booster vaccination for Equine Influenza (EI) within the last 6 months regardless of the nature of their primary course. Information about this has been available since October 2021, see https://www.ihrb.ie/equine-influenza .

From 1st January 2023, a horse will only be eligible to race if it has received an EI vaccination, which has been approved on the Weatherbys ePassport App, within the previous 6 months.

To avoid having to restart EI vaccinations for a horse, we strongly recommend that you now review the EI vaccination status of all horses in your care on the Weatherbys ePassport App to ensure that they are correctly vaccinated in accordance with Rule 91, ready for 2023.

As an aide memoire, the following is required from 1st January 2023:

  • First vaccination; and
  • Second vaccination between 21 and 60 days after the first; and
  • Third vaccination between 120 and 180 days after the second; or
  • Any other schedule of primary vaccination which at the time of vaccination was deemed compliant by the IHRB
  • Booster vaccination administered within each succeeding six months
