The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Arcanears, trained by M.Halford, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. H. Hynes, that J.M. Sheridan, rider of No Speed Limit (FR), weighed in at 1.1 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from Mr. H. Hynes who stated that J.M. Sheridan had initially weighed in at 1.5 lbs overweighed before removing the breast girth which reduced his weight to 1.1 lbs overweight. J.M. Sheridan stated that he had a heavy jumping saddle and lead cloth but accepted the account as given by Mr. Hynes. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that J.M. Sheridan was in breach of Rule 231. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended J.M. Sheridan for one raceday.

The Stewards interviewed Alan Richardson, trainer, concerning the failure to nominate a rider before the designated time for Art Of Unity (GB). Evidence was heard from the trainer who stated that he had confirmed availability with a seven pound claiming Qualified Rider when he learnt at a later stage that seven pound claimers were not qualified to ride under the conditions of this race. Through an agent, he secured Mr N. McParlan to ride his charge but it was then too late to nominate him by the designated time. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards reminded Alan Richardson concerning his responsibility to comply with the provisions of Rule 195(i).

Mr F. Maguire, rider of Half Nutz trained by J.P. Murtagh, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stumbled badly and lost momentum at about half way in this race.

267F Gilna's Cottage Inn (Q.R.) Race

The Stewards interviewed Mr T. Hamilton, rider of Alessandro Algardi, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, Mr T. Hamilton stated that his mount got racing early and had a high head carriage. He added that he initially tried one back hander but his mount kept responding to his use and got beaten in a tight finish. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr T. Hamilton was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned him on this occasion
