R.P. Whelan, rider of Miss Abby Jools trained by M.Halford, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got tight for room about two furlongs from the finish.

J.A. Powell, rider of Tynamite trained by David Marnane, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got upset in the starting stalls.

The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final two furlongs involving Miss Abby Jools, ridden by R.P. Whelan, Selective Power, ridden by B.M. Coen, Beleaguerment, ridden by G.F. Carroll, and Helmet Star (GB), ridden by C.D. Hayes where it appeared that an incident involved Miss Abby Jools and Beleaguerment. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, G.F. Carroll stated that his mount failed to quicken through a gap that appeared but did not feel any contact from Miss Abby Jools. C.D. Hayes stated that his run had petered out and felt that he was not involved in any incident. B.M. Coen stated that he had kicked on when his mount lugged in on Beleaguerment through running green in his first handicap. R.P. Whelan stated that he went for the same gap as G.F. Carroll when he saw that rider niggling his mount but it closed when Selective Power lugged in and this caused a concertina effect with Beleaguerment. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards informed R.P. Whelan that on this occasion they would give him the benefit of the doubt but advised him to ride with more awareness.

The Stewards requested a report from Peter Lawlor, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Joupe, placed first, as compared with its recent run at Down Royal on the 2nd September when finishing ninth of twelve runners. Peter Lawlor reported that his filly carried 10st 2lbs at Down Royal and was drawn wide with a quick run to the first bend which did not suit her. He felt that today she was more suited to the All Weather surface and the long straight where she had previously won twice here last year. Having considered the explanation, the Stewards noted the content of the report.
