Alba Chiara - Down Royal, 5 September 2025

12 September 2025 General Press Release

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board wish to confirm that Alba Chiara, trained by Miss Natalia Lupini, winner of the Grant Thornton Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap in Down Royal on 5 September 2025 competed in this race without the benefit of a weight-for-age (WFA) allowance.

According to the Rules of Racing’s WFA scale for three-year-olds over this distance at this time of year, Alba Chiara was entitled to an 11lb WFA allowance against older horses.

However, due to an administration error, the WFA allowance was not applied to Alba Chiara’s racing weight when the weights for this race were published, and as a result, being the only three-year-old in the race, she carried 11lb more than she was required to carry as per the conditions of the race.

Having investigated the matter with Horse Racing Ireland, we confirm that there has been no other instance of the non-application of a WFA allowance and that the specific issue that caused this error has been addressed.
