The Appeals Body, Mr Laurence McFerran (Chair), Mr Nick Wachman and Ms Linda Harney convened at the offices of the Irish Horeseracing Regulatory Board on Thursday, 11 June to consider the appeal of Danny Mullins (Rider) against the decision of the Raceday Stewards at Limerick on 28 May 2026.
On the day following the running of the Easyfix Handicap Hurdle, the Raceday Stewards found Mr Mulins, rider of Minella Diamond, in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard (second offence) they suspended him for four racedays.
The grounds of appeal lodged by Mr Mullins were that the Raceday Stewards erred in their decision.
At the appeal hearing, evidence was heard from Mr Mullins. The Appeals Body also watched a recording of the race.
In his evidence, Mr Mullins stated that it was his intention to maintain a wide racing line however he was momentarily pushed wider than he wanted to be by the horse on his inside. Mr Mullins explained how himself and Daniel King, rider of Marlpark moved inwards in order to jump the hurdle and there was no contact between the two riders. Mr Mullins added that in his opinion any interference that may have occurred was independent of him.
Having considered the evidence, the Appeals Body allowed Mr Mullins appeal.
The case was presented by Mr Mullins, accompanied by Mr Barry Geraghty, Irish Jockeys Association. The IHRB was represented by Ms Christine Traynor, IHRB Head of Racing Regulation and Integrity and Mr Leighton Aspell, IHRB Stipendiary Steward.
