The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Jer's Girl trained by Gavin Cromwell was suffering from an active skin disease. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned who stated that Jer's Girl was being treated for a skin disease for the last three weeks. He was confident that the disease was no longer active and he produced a veterinary certificate to confirm this. In the trainer's opinion the problem must have flared up on the journey to the track.
Evidence was also heard from The Turf Club Veterinary Officers. Ms. Joan Taylor accepted that the disease may have been inactive when examined on Friday by the trainer's veterinary surgeon but was confident that it was now in an active state. Ms. Inge D'Haese also felt that the disease was still active. Having considered the veterinary evidence, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Jer's Girl using their powers under Rule 19(i). The Stewards were satisfied that the trainer had taken every possible precaution in the treatment of this disease and therefore took no further action.
