067A Irish EBF Median Sires Series M'dn

The IHRB Veterinary Officer examined Dundrum, trained by Mrs John Harrington, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Raceday Stewards interviewed M. Santos, rider of Buyin Buyin, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence M. Santos stated that his mount was very green and needed assistance with the whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that M. Santos was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency, R10(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond and R10(3)(e) by hitting his horse other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Raceday Stewards cautioned the rider in relation to his breach of R10(3)(g), suspended him for one raceday in relation to his breach of R10(3)(i) and further suspended him for two racedays in relation to his breach of R10(3)(e). Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards referred M. Santos to R.A.C.E for one days tuition on the correct use of the whip.

Mrs John Harrington, trainer of Dundrum, reported to the Office of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board that her charge was subsequently found to be lame behind post race.

067E 12th July Ladies Day At Dundalk H'cap

Adam Caffrey, rider of Miss Abby Jools, trained by C. Byrnes, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung a small bit left in the last fifty yards.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of Miss Abby Jools, trained by C. Byrnes, placed first, compared with its previous run here on the 17th February 2023 when finishing thirteenth of fourteen runners beaten seven and a quarter lengths over seven furlongs in a 47-70 handicap when ridden by S.P. Davis. Evidence was heard from Mark Bird, Rules of Racing Handicapper who gave his assessment of the run the previous day as compared with the winning run today and stated that the filly raced off sixty six the last day and was dropped to sixty five for today's run. Evidence was also heard from the trainer's Authorised Representative Cathal Byrnes who stated that the run the last day was over seven furlongs whereas today their charge raced over one mile with the benefit of a seven pound claiming apprentice today as against a professional rider the previous day and furthermore the winning margin was a neck today compared to being beaten seven lengths the last day. On further questioning, Cathal Byrnes stated that Charles Byrnes only acquired this filly in January and she has had an uninterrupted training regime since then. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride the previous day where in his opinion the filly was outpaced when the pace quickened and revealed the riders post race comment that the filly needed a step up in trip. In relation to the betting trends of the run on the 17th February and today, Cathal Byrnes was unable to account for the trends of both days. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards referred this matter to a Senior Racing Official of the IHRB for further investigation.

Charles O'Brien, trainer of Shimmerz, reported to the Office of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board that his charge was subsequently found to be in season post race.
