The Referrals Committee, Mr Michael Sheahan (Chair), Ms Meta Osborne and Mr Anthony Byrne convened at the offices of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board to consider a referral from an IHRB Senior Racing Official in relation to the identification of Million Dollar Man, trained by Thomas Corish, who was due to run in division two of the O’Driscolls Irish Whiskey Maiden Hurdle on 20 April 2026 at Tramore.
On the day, the Raceday Stewards received a report from the IHRB Veterinary Officer, that although the microchip was identified, it was not possible to positively identify Million Dollar Man from the passport presented. The Raceday Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Million Dollar Man in accordance with Rule 90(iii) and referred the matter to a Senior Racing Official.
At the Referral Hearing, written submissions were considered from Mr Corish.
In his submission, Mr Corish accepted that he was in breach of the Rules and apologised for the error. Furthermore, Mr Corish confirmed that amended markings were submitted to Weatherbys and the passport has been updated and the horse has since run in a race.
Having considered the evidence, the Referrals Committee were satisfied that Mr Corish was in breach of Rule 90(iii) and taking account of Mr Corish’s acceptance of the breach and confirmation that the issue has been rectified they imposed a fine of €500.
