Bray (H) Point to Point Meeting, Sunday, 20th February, 2011.
Confined Maiden Race for 5-y-o & upwards
The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the last fence involving Desperate Times, ridden by Mr. B. O’Neill, placed first, and Bringbackthebert, ridden by Mr. J.J. Codd, placed second. Evidence was heard from both riders concerned and having considered the evidence the Stewards decided that they would make no alteration to the Judges placings.
The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that Mr. B. O’Neill had ridden carelessly and they therefore cautioned him as to his future riding in this regard.
The following trainer was fined €130 for failing to produce a passport in respect of the winner in accordance with the provisions of Rule 90 (vi):- Mr. S. Donohoe for Sweeney Tunes (GB) at Navan on 13th February, 2011.

026C(i) Champagne & Seafood Festival Package Maiden Hurdle (Division One) & The Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of the winner, O Fortuna, trained by Mr. D.T Hughes, compared with the horse’s previous run at Cork on the 13th December 2010, when he was pulled up in the race won by Foildubh.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that this lightly raced gelding had run well at Leopardstown last February and subsequently ran in an I.N.H. Flat Race at Cork on the 21st March. Subsequent to the latter race the horse was found to have kickback following an endoscopic examination post race. Regarding the horse’s most recent run, Mr. Hughes expected a good performance with a possible mid division finish, but the gelding ran most disappointing for no known reason. O Fortuna was subsequently scoped and thoroughly examined at his stables post race and no abnormality was found. Mr. Hughes added that R. Loughran, who rode the horse on that occasion, had reported to him that day that the gelding made a slight noise in running. The gelding was fitted with a cross noseband today.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. However, in view of parts of the evidence suggesting that Mr. Hughes had failed to make two separate reports that may have affected the horse’s performance on separate occasions, the Stewards referred him to the Referrals Committee.

026D Punchestown.com For Festival Offers Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. David Fenton, trainer of the winner Avondhu Lady, regarding the apparent improvement in form of the horse compared to her previous run at Limerick on the 26th January where she finished 8th of 14 finishers and was beaten 51 lengths by the winner Dare To Doubt.
Mr. Fenton reported that this mare ran in five point to points, winning twice and finishing runner up on the other occasions. He said that she has been most consistent except for the previous run in question for which he was most disappointed. He added that she scoped clear afterwards and that his only suggestion may be that today’s looser heavy ground was more suitable for the horse than the tacky heavy ground at Limerick. He concluded by saying that otherwise she has handled all goings on previous runs.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.

026E Hen Party Heaven At The Festival Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed P. Carberry, and Mr. Gordon Elliott, rider and trainer respectfully, of Martin Scruff, placed second, concerning the riding of this horse in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trained concerned.
In his evidence P. Carberry stated that his mount had made up ground in running, but having jumped the second last hurdle well, the horse began to struggle in the chopped ground. He felt on the approach to the final hurdle that he had all his competitors covered and when the eventual winner jumped the hurdle slowly, he was satisfied to give his horse a quick breather as he felt that the leader had nothing more to offer. He was surprised that the winner picked up quickly and galloped very strongly to the line.
In his evidence Mr. Elliot added that this gelding was having his second race in six days and that he reluctantly ran him only because of a nineteen pound penalty received for his win at Thurles. He also stated that P. Carberry knows the horse well and that the gelding may have been feeling the effects of his most recent race. He was satisfied with the ride.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards after taking all the circumstances into account, were of the opinion that P. Carberry had made an error of judgement and they therefore severely cautioned him concerning his future riding.
