The following trainer was fined €130 for the non-notification of the racecourse performance in accordance with Rule 148(v)(d) relating to horses (Irish Trained) running overseas:- Mr. James J. Hartnett for Shimmering Moment (USA) at Meydan on Thursday 20th January.
Navan Meeting, 25th January 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: P.T. Enright rode Mountain Lough (reserve), trained by Mr. C. Byrnes (fifth race).
The Stewards fined the following trainer €400 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. M.F. Morris for Big Game Hunter (€200 declared in error and €200 for late withdrawal).
012A 2011 Navan Membership Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.F. O’Shea, trainer, concerning the poor performance of his charge Sarahs Catcher in this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that he had reported that this filly had scoped wrong after her previous race for which she was treated and had scoped clear yesterday. In running she hit the first hurdle and possibly lost interest. He added that she had ability, but has her own ideas about racing.
Following the running of this race Sarahs Catcher was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, at the request of the Stewards, and was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards suspended Sarahs Catcher for 60 days in accordance with the provisions of Rule 14 (iii).
A representative for Ms. Debbie Hartnett, trainer of Donnachas Chant (USA), reported to a Turf Club Official that this horse scoped badly post race.
012C Tote Jackpot Guarantee Maiden Hurdle & P. Carberry, rider of King Of The Refs, trained by Mr. A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake at the third hurdle, hung left in the backstraight, tired and was pulled up. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that King Of The Refs was found to be post race normal.
A.J. McNamara, rider of Out Now, trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well to the fourth last hurdle, but gradually lost his position from thereon for no apparent reason. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Out Now was found to be post race normal.
012D Meath Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. John J. Nallen, trainer of Minella Bliss, regarding the late arrival of his horse into the parade ring for this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that he collected his saddle from M.J. Ferris, rider, in good time, but had difficulty in applying blinkers to the horse and then was unable to find a number cloth to place over the paddock rug.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned Mr. Nallen concerning his responsibility to have his horse in the parade ring in a reasonable time before the signal to mount is given.
M.P. Butler, rider of Lookoutnow, trained by Mr. Michael Butler, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly right, ran wide, then ran out and was pulled up.
012E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed Mr. Alan Daly, trainer, concerning the poor performance of his charge Lunaburg (FR) in this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that this gelding was imported from France where it had been placed in flat races. Since his transition to National Hunt racing, the horse has failed to show much ability and disappointed again today.
Following the running of this race Lunaburg (FR) was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards suspended Lunaburg (FR) for 60 days in accordance with the provisions of Rule 14 (iii).
Mr. Vincent Laurence Halley, trainer of Boxing Along, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge scoped badly post race.
The Stewards fined Mr. V.C. Ward, trainer, €130 for failing to present a passport in respect of Capel Lad to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer as required by the Instructions and Notices which pertain to Identification and Vaccination Checks.

Limerick Meeting, 26th January 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: K.M. Donoghue rode Ambershan (reserve), trained by Mr. John Long (third race); I.J. McCarthy rode Inishlacken (reserve), trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes (fourth race) and Mr. M.J. Doran replaced Mr. D.J. Boland (injured) on Johnsons Coat, trained by Mr. Paul Nolan (seventh race).
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Edward P. Harty for Like Your Style (declared in error).
014A Irish Stallion farms European Breeders Fund Mares Maiden Hurdle & Andrew J. McNamara, rider of Fairly Definite, trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room in the early stages of the race and as a result found himself further back in the field than he would have liked. He said the horse could not lie up with the leaders heading up the backstraight for this final time, but passed tired horses in the closing stages.
014B I.N.H. Stallion Owners European Breeders Fund Novice Hurdle & P. Townend, rider of Aughaloor, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount pulled too hard early on and found little in the closing stages as a result. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Aughaloor was found to be post race normal.
014D Sporting Limerick Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Sean Thomas Doyle, trainer of the winner Get In There, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared with the filly’s previous three runs over hurdles.
Mr. Doyle stated that the animal’s three runs over hurdles to date were on a sounder surface, and she disappointed badly, especially when tried over two miles. He decided to give her a break after her last run to freshen her up and this, combined with the step up in trip and handling the very testing going today (heavy), seemed to have brought about the apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
014E Greenmount Beginners Steeplechase & P. Carberry, rider of Outlaw Kid, trained by Mr. Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a mistake at the ditch and that he gave the horse a chance to recover after which the horse stayed on past tired horses in the home straight.
014F Greenmount Conference Centre Novice Handicap Steeplechase & J.M. Allen, rider of Skeheenarinky, trained by Mr. Sean O. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up lame in this race.
Thurles Meeting, 27th January 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: K.T. Coleman replaced T.J. Doyle (injured) on Born With A Gift, trained by Mr. P.F. O’Donnell (third race) and P. Carberry replaced D.N. Russell (injured) on For Bill, trained by Mr. Michael Winters (sixth race).
015C I.N.H. Stallion Owners European Breeders Fund Maiden Hurdle & M.J. Ferris, rider of Rebel Alliance, trained by Mr. M.F. Morris, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running and was pulled up.
015D Leugh Handicap Hurdle & Mr. S.J. Treacy, trainer of Takasima, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge hung badly left during the running of this race.
015E Matty Ryan Memorial Kinloch Brae Steeplechase & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Glencove Marina, trained by Mr. Eoin Griffin, was found to be lame post race.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Psycho, trained by Mr. A.J. Martin, was found to be post race normal.
015F Ask & Getaway Coolmore National Hunt Sires European Breeders Fund Mares Novice Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed K.T. Coleman, rider of Cool Quest, placed third, after it appeared he eased up his mount in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he mistook the winning post.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that K.T. Coleman was in breach of Rule 212 and they therefore suspended him for five race days (10th, 12th, 13th, 16th, and 17th February). Furthermore, the Stewards ordered that K.T. Coleman forfeit his riding fee.
015G Arctic Tack Stud Hunters Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Raymond Hurley, trainer of the winner Whyso Mayo, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse in this race compared with the animal’s previous run at Aghabullogue point to point on 9th January where he slipped up in running after the second last when a poor sixth.
In his evidence Mr. Hurley reported that the horse had made a bad mistake when running well before he slipped up.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
The Stewards enquired into an incident passing the stands with a circuit remaining involving Viking Splash, ridden by Mr. B. Hayes, placed third, and Annacarton, ridden by Mr. D.O’ Connor, unplaced, where it appeared that Viking Splash was forced to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. D. O’Connor had ridden improperly, and having taken his excellent record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for three race days. Furthermore, the Stewards advised Mr. O’Connor to be more accurate with his evidence in the future.
Gowran Park Meeting, 28th January 2011
011A Thomastown Maiden Hurdle & N.P. Madden , rider of Scottish Boogie, trained by Mr. C. Byrnes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very free in the early stages and weakened after a mistake at the third last hurdle.
011C Kilkenny Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired from Mr. Oliver McKiernan, trainer of the winner Whodoyouthink, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared with the animal’s previous run at Leopardstown on 9th January where he finished last of 23 finishers behind Final Approach.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who confirmed the report that was made by P.W. Flood, rider, to the Stewards Secretaries at Leopardstown ‘that his mount was unable to lie up in the early stages’. He added that, with the benefit of hindsight, his charge may have been unsuited in having to line up at the tapes for a second time after a false start had been called at Leopardstown.
Furthermore, he stated that his charge was slowly away when the race eventually got underway and was never able to get competitive especially on the inside track that was in use on that day.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
011D Connolly’s Red Mills Thyestes Handicap Steeplechase & P. Carberry, rider of Across The Bay, trained by Mr. Noel Meade, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Agus A Vic, trained by Mr. Patrick Martin, was found to have lost a front shoe during the running of this race.
011F Carey’s Cottage Cup Handicap Steeplechase & Andrew J. McNamara, rider of Judge Roy Bean, trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled throughout. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Judge Roy Bean was found to be post race normal.
A.P. Heskin, rider of Queen Court, trained by Mr. R.K. Watson, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly left and ran out on the bend past the stands. He also reported that the horse may have resented the application of blinkers today.
011G New Tote Daily Double I.N.H. Flat Race & Mr. Anthony Mullins, trainer of Ahyaknowyerself, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
The Stewards fined Mr. G.T. Lynch, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Letter Of Credit in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
Fairyhouse Meeting, 29th January 2011
016A Corporate Hospitality At Fairyhouse Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into possible interference from the last hurdle involving the winner Canaly, ridden by P.W. Flood, and Johnny McGeeney, ridden by P. Townend, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.
Mr. D.T. Hughes, trainer of the winner, also attended this enquiry.
Judge Tony Hunt, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that God’s County (FR), trained by Mr. T.M. Walsh, was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Buckskin Bob, trained by Mr. Michael Cunningham, was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
016C Ian Smith Novice Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. A.J. Martin, trainer of the winner Elcanos (GER), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared to the animal’s last run at Cork where he was beaten 42 lengths.
Mr. Martin reported that his horse made a bad mistake at the second last at Cork when still running well, and but for that, would have finished much closer.
The Stewards also considered evidence from Mr. A. Shaw, Turf Club National Hunt Handicapper.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
Mr. J.A. Nash, trainer of Barbaric Times, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was pulled up lame in this race.
016D Easter Festival 2011 at Fairyhouse Handicap Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Short Grass, trained by Mr. C. Roche, was found to be post race normal.
016E New Tote Daily Double Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of That Beats Banaher (GB), ridden by B.T. O’Connell, and trained by Mr. Liam Kenny.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Clyde Kennedy, authorised representative for Mr. Kenny, who stated that his instructions to the rider were to settle the horse in fifth or sixth and to finish as best as he could. He also stated that he was disappointed the horse could not have finished a bit closer, but was satisfied with the ride.
Evidence was also heard from the rider concerned, who confirmed the instructions and added that his mount was outpaced mid race. He also stated that the horse had made a respiratory noise in his last race and he was therefore conscious not to ask his mount for making maximum effort too early. He also felt that he had ridden the horse out from the third last and that the animal stayed on well.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that That Beats Banaher (GB) was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that B.T. O Connell had made insufficient effort and they therefore suspended him for seven race days and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee.
The Stewards were also of the opinion that the racecourse had been used as a training ground, and they therefore suspended That Beats Banaher (GB) for forty two days, while they fined Mr. Kenny €1,500 through his representative.
Furthermore, since the trainer had failed to report that the horse had made a respiratory noise on his last run, the Stewards referred the mater to the Referrals Committee for further investigation.
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of The Real Tyson, ridden by Andrew J. McNamara, and trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady.
Evidence was heard from that trainer concerned, who stated that he had instructed the rider to achieve his best possible placing and added that he made the rider aware that he would like the horse to be ridden to finish the race as best as possible. He also expressed his satisfaction with the ride.
In his evidence Andrew J. McNamara confirmed the instructions and added that the horse hung badly throughout. This was confirmed by D.J. Condon, who rode in this race and also gave evidence at the inquiry.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that The Real Tyson was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
The Stewards granted permission for fence number six to be omitted in this race and in the St. Paul’s Children With Autism Challenge Handicap Steeplechase due to ground conditions.
A.E. Lynch, rider of Noble Way, trained by Ms. Claire O’Connell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Noble Way was found to have suffered an overreach, but was otherwise post race normal.
016G Ratoath (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into an incident just after the finish of this race involving Fourth Class, ridden by Mr. D. Roche, placed fifth, and Eirland, ridden by Miss N. Carberry, unplaced, where it appeared that the latter had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the incident and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Roche had ridden carelessly and they therefore cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
The Stewards received a report from Mr. Dermot McLlveen, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, regarding the fact that he was unable to positively identify Articular, trained by Mr. Paul Nolan, prior to the running of this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned.
Having considered the report, the Stewards, acting under the provisions of Rule 90, ordered the withdrawal of Articular from this race and referred the matter to the Chief Executive of the Turf Club for further investigation.
Mr. Thomas Cooper, trainer of Lady Knightess, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge scoped badly post race.
The Stewards fined Mr. Thomas Cooper, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Lady Knightess in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
Punchestown Meeting, 30th January 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: Mr. P. Carberry rode Eligible Batchelor (reserve), trained by Mr. Michael Hourigan (fifth race).
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Conor O’Dwyer for Hangover (off feed).
017E Association Of Irish Racehorse Owners Grand National Trial Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards enquired into possible interference from after the last fence involving the winner Some Target, ridden by P. Townend, and Noble Concorde (GB), ridden by R.M. Power, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, and also from Mr. J.H. Culloty, trainer of Noble Concorde (GB).
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. However, the Stewards were of the opinion that P. Townend had ridden carelessly, and having taken his excellent record into account, they cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Droim Toll, trained by Mr. Donal Hassett, was found to be lame on his left hind post race.
Mr. Michael Fitzsimons, trainer of Karinga Queen, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 31st January that his charge never travelled throughout this race and, following an endoscopic examination, was found to be post race normal.
The Stewards fined Mrs Denise Foster, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Seannan Mac in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
