Leopardstown Meeting, 23rd January 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: B.J. Geraghty replaced A.P. Cawley (injured) on Carloswayback, trained by Mr. Paul Nolan (fifth race).
013A Frank Conroy Memorial Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards granted permission for D.J. Casey to dismount immediately after the finish of this race from Buck Barrow, placed third, as a result of the gelding going lame which in turn allowed the animal to proceed directly to the stable yard.
E.J. O’Connell, rider of Make Mine Magic, trained by Mr. Eoin Griffin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not travel in the early stages, made a mistake at the last when staying on and probably needs softer ground.
Mrs John Harrington, trainer of Somethingdifferent, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her charge was found to be lame post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
013B Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed P. Carberry, rider of the winner Realt Dubh, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he used his whip improperly.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned the rider accordingly and reminded him of his future responsibilities in this regard.
Mrs John Harrington, trainer of Saludos, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
013C Ryan’s Event Cleaners Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mrs. Mary Tyner, authorised representative for Mr. Robert Tyner, trainer of the winner By The Hour, regarding the apparent improvement in form of the animal compared with the horse’s previous run at Clonmel where she finished last of eleven runners.
Mrs Tyner reported that the mare ran in check pieces at Clonmel and appeared to lose interest as she never travelled. The check pieces were left off today and the mare seemed to return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference between the last fence and the winning post involving the winner By The Hour, ridden by P.T. Enright, Questions Answered, ridden by R.J. Jones, placed second, and Deal Done (FR), ridden by P.W. Flood, placed third, where it appeared that Deal Done (FR) suffered interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placing. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that R.J. Jones had ridden carelessly and they therefore suspended him for three race days (9th, 10th, and 12th February).
Mr. D.T. Hughes, trainer of Deal Done (FR), also attended this enquiry.
013F New Tote Daily Double Handicap Hurdle & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Pom Flyer, trained by Mr. F. Flood, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up lame.
013G Follow Leopardstown On Facebook (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Shrapnel, trained by Mr. C. Byrnes, was found to be post race normal.
The Stewards fined Mr. Adrian Murray, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Clonleney in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
