004C Cork’s Student Raceday March 31st Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards received a request from Mr. C. Byrnes, trainer of Lash It On, to substitute his nominated rider K. Schous, with B.C. Byrnes, as K. Schous had contacted him approximately 30 minutes before race time to inform him that he did not have a current rider’s licence.
Mr. Byrnes stated he had made verbal contact with K. Schous to engage him for this ride.
The Turf Club was contacted and they informed the Stewards that K. Schous was made aware on Friday that his licence would not be processed in time for today’s meeting. The Stewards informed Mr. Byrnes, that in terms of R3 (3), they would like the replacement rider to be “like for like” and therefore granted permission for C.V. Ring to be the substitute rider.

005A Devil’s Bit Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed D.G. Hogan, rider of the winner Slippers Percy, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.G. Hogan had used the whip with excessive frequency, and without giving the horse a chance to respond. The Stewards therefore suspended him for one race day (22nd January).
The Stewards enquired into possible interference from the approach to the final fence involving the winner Slippers Percy, ridden by D.G. Hogan, and Arabella Boy, ridden by Miss N. Carberry, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. However, they were of the opinion that D.G. Hogan had ridden carelessly and therefore suspended him for one race day (20th January).
The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer of the winner Slippers Percy, concerning the apparent improvement in form of his charge.
Mr. Hogan reported that the horse benefited from the step up in trip today and added that being given an uncontested lead had helped his charge return to form.

Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned.
Following the running of this race Cottage Cross was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount ran a little too keen early in the race, and having made a mistake at the last hurdle, he became very tired in the closing stages and hung right onto the running rail, which prevented him from riding the horse out fully.

Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that a combination of delays due to a road traffic accident on the M 4 and a bridle alteration to his charge as a result of getting his tongue over the bit whilst in the parade ring before the race resulted in his charge being late to the start which caused a slight delay to the start of this race. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted that extenuating circumstances applied in this instance and took no further action other than to remind Mr. Martin of his responsibilities in this regard for the future.
A.E. Lynch, rider of Tin Town Boy, trained by Mr. H. Rogers, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran keen early on, was not fluent at his hurdles and may need better ground.

007E Tote Pick Six Every Sunday Leopardstown Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed R.M. Power, rider of Got Attitude, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount tends to race lazily and was wearing cheek pieces for the first time today, but kept responding for pressure. Ultimately, however, he accepted that he may have been too hard on his mount.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R.M. Power had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his very good record in this regard into account, they severely cautioned him in relation to his future riding.
The Stewards interviewed Mr. J. Collins, Turf Club Clerk of the Course, and Mr. W. Gibbons, Course Foreman, in relation to the failure of the ground staff to have all the panels of the first hurdle in the back straight erected before the runners had made their way down the back straight for the second time.
Evidence was heard from both parties concerned, which included an admission that the ground staff had made an error of judgement, in that they mistook the distance of the race and had dismantled all but two panels of that particular hurdle.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards instructed Mr. J. Collins and Mr. W. Gibbons to put procedures in place to ensure that a repeat of an incident such as this does not occur again.
Furthermore, the Stewards forwarded a report to the Turf Club in relation to this matter.
The Stewards interviewed Mr. W.P. Muliins, trainer of Dooneys Gate, placed fourth, regarding the late arrival of his horse into the parade ring prior to the running of this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that the delay was as a result having to change the bit and attach a girth sleeve to his charge prior to the race. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards reminded Mr. Mullins of his responsibilities to have his horses in the parade ring in reasonable time before the signal to mount is given in the future.
007F Pertemps Handicap Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that The Shepherd, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, was found to be lame behind post race.
