Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Mr. Robert Giles, authorised representative of the trainer.
In his evidence F. Lynch stated that his instructions were to drop his mount in from his bad draw, get him settled and make the best of his way home. He said he got his mount over to the rail by the end of the backstraight, but from there on to the finish his horse hung left throughout. He said he was unable to ride him out properly as the horse hung so badly. He stated that eventually when he pulled his mount around a tired runner late on, the horse switched leads and ran on past beaten horses.
Mr. Robert Giles confirmed these instructions and stated that the horse seems most effective when ridden from behind these days. He explained how this trip (seven furlongs) is the minimum for the horse these days, and how the animal has failed to settle for different riders in the past. He said he was satisfied with the ride considering how badly the horse had hung throughout.

Manning was in breach of Rule 213 (ii) in that he had failed to report in the first instance anything that might have affected the running of his mount. Mr. Clifford reported that his charge was unable to go the pace at Cork last time over the shorter trip of two miles and three furlongs, and seemed to be better suited to today’s longer trip of three miles. This in his opinion brought about today’s improved performance.
