Limerick Meeting, 3rd April 2011

055E Hugh McMahon Memorial Novice Steeplechase & D.J. Condon, rider of Roi Du Mee (FR), trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly in the early stages, never travelled and was eased in the straight when his chance had gone.

056C €5 After Five Handicap & The Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final 200 yards involving the winner Mrs Batt, ridden by B.A. Curtis, Legendary Times, ridden by D.M. Grant, placed second, and Landsdowne, ridden by P. Shanahan, placed third.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They did, however, caution B.A. Curtis to make a greater effort to ride with more care in the future.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Little Village, trained by Mr. John C. McConnell, was found to have a respiratory tract infection following an endoscopic examination post race.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They did, however, consider that D.P. McDonogh had ridden carelessly and therefore suspended him for one race day (21st April).

The Stewards informed Mr. T.Stack, trainer of Pivotal Rock, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.

Clonmel Meeting, 7th April 2011

057A Powerstown Maiden Hurdle & A.P. Cawley, rider of Skiboski (FR), trained by Mr. Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became upset before the start, ducked and unseated him just as the race started.

057B(i) Slievenamon Maiden Hurdle (Division One) & The Stewards interviewed Mr. Paul Stafford, trainer, concerning the poor performance of his horse Blueberry Man.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that this gelding had been operated on for a soft palate and made his racecourse reappearance at the backend of last year. He felt on that occasion that the horse ran well but in his opinion the animal needs better ground. He also felt that the animal missed the break today, became detached and jumped slowly when left on his own.
Following the running of this race Blueberry Man was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards suspended Blueberry Man for 60 days in accordance with the provisions of Rule 14 (iii).

057B(ii) Slievenamon Maiden Hurdle (Division Two) & The Stewards enquired into possible interference about two furlongs from the finish involving Luke’s Benefit, ridden by Mr. Denis Gerard Hogan, placed second, and Dr Anubis, ridden by M. Darcy, placed third.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that M. Darcy had ridden carelessly, and having taken his very good previous record in this regard into account, they suspended him for two race days (21st and 25th April).

057F Racing At Clonmel On Holy Thursday Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. P.J. Rothwell, trainer of the winner Jacks Island, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse in this race compared with the animal’s previous run at Gowran Park on the 19th March, when he finished last of 14 finishers behind the winner Red Basil.
Mr. Rothwell reported that this gelding was reluctant at Gowran Park when fitted with cheekpieces but he was fitted with blinkers today and this appears to have rekindled his enthusiasm.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.

D.G. Hogan, rider of Killary Bay, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, reported to a Turf Club Official  that his mount made a bad mistake at the first fence and lost his action.

M.W. Bowes, rider of Any Bets, trained by Mr. Oliver McKiernan, reported to a Turf Club Official that his mount gurgled on the final circuit and never travelled from thereon. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Any Bets was found to be clinically normal post race.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judges’ placings and took no further action.

058D [email protected] Handicap & D.P. McDonogh, rider of Cat Fire, trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room and could not get a clear run on a number of occasions in the home straight.

P.J. Smullen, rider of Isis Song, trained by Mr. Joseph G. Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount had to check slightly and was eased when beaten.

058E Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong and a half involving Dahindar, ridden by P.B. Beggy, placed second, Maundy Money (GB), ridden by C. O’Donoghue, and Patrickswell, ridden by B.A. Curtis, both unplaced, where it appeared that Maundy Money (GB) suffered some interference and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference caused was accidental in nature and took no further action.

Tramore Meeting, 9th April 2011

059A Newtown Maiden Hurdle & A representative for the trainer Mr. J.T. Gorman, trainer of Rapid Rock (GB), reported to a Turf Club Official that this animal was found to be distressed post race.

O’Grady, trainer of the winner Tadhg, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared with the animal’s previous run at Limerick on the 12th March where he finished tenth of 16 finishers to Muzak and was subsequently reported to be post race normal when examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
Mr. O’Grady reported that this gelding was schooled intensively since that run and appeared to be very confident today.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.

059E Pickardstown Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards enquired into the start of this race where it appeared that Shernaz, ridden by R.C. Colgan, was at the rear of the field when the start was effected and took no part.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Derek Cullen, Turf Club Starter, R.C. Colgan, Mr. J.T.R. Dreaper, trainer of Shernaz, M. Darcy, rider of Korean (FR), and Mr. John O’Sullivan, the advance white flag man.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the result to stand as they were satisfied that a fair start had been effected.
The Stewards did, however, feel that there was a breakdown in communications between the Starter and R.C. Colgan. They therefore advised the rider that, should such a circumstance arise again in the future, he should proceed in the race.

The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Eoghan O’Grady, trainer of the winner Bulls  And Mortar, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared with the animal’s previous run over fences at Navan on the 26th February where he finished 7th of  9  finishers to Twice The Craic and was beaten about 46 lengths.
Mr. O’Grady reported that this gelding appreciated being fitted with a tongue strap and racing on a faster surface today.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.

060E Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed M.P. Burke, rider of Saddler’s Native, concerning his use of the whip.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that M.P. Burke had used his whip with excessive frequency and unnecessarily when out of contention. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards therefore suspended him for two race days (25th and 26th April).

Ms. M. Flynn, trainer of Ballyvoile, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her charge hung badly throughout.
