Cork Meeing, 31st March 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: R. Walsh replaced D.J. Condon (Stewards permission) on Bog Warrior, trained by Mr. A.J. Martin (third race); A.E. Lynch replaced P. Carberry (Stewards permission) on Subaroo Blue, trained by Mr. Dermot Anthony McLoughlin (third race) and B.M. Cash rode Presenting Mac (reserve), trained by Mr. Gerard Keane (third race).
051A www.corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle & J.R. Barry, rider of Namarama, trained by Mr. John Queally, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green, hung left before the turn for home, stayed on in the closing stages and may improve for a step up in trip.
I.J. McCarthy, rider of Caheronaun, trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and hung badly throughout.
051B Cit Su Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of the winner Bobby John, trained by Mr. F. Flood, compared with the horse’s previous form to date.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Fran Flood, Authorised Representative for the trainer, who stated that the animal has always shown some ability in his work at home and works like a horse with pace but, ultimately has proved most disappointing on the track so far. He also reported that he felt today’s better ground appeared to bring about an improved performance from the horse.
Evidence was also heard from Mr. A. Shaw, Turf Club National Hunt Handicapper, who stated that this gelding had shown limited ability on four runs to date on slow ground.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
051C Explicit.ie Maiden Hurdle &The Stewards interviewed Mr. Ciaran O’Brien, trainer, concerning the poor performance of his horse Roowest.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned.
Following the running of this race Roowest was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards, acting in terms of Rule 212 (b), suspended Roowest from racing for 60 days.
The Stewards interviewed M.J. Ferris, rider of Mighty Spicy, concerning his riding in this race where he appeared to strike his mount a number of times with his whip as she cantered back to the unsaddling enclosure after she had tailed off in the race and had been pulled up.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted the facts presented before him and added that he had acted out of frustration and stated that it was out of character for him to behave in that manner and apologised for his actions.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that M.J. Ferris was in breach of Rule 272 and therefore suspended him for seven race days (15th, 17th, 21st, 25th, 26th, and 27th April).
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that American Touch, trained by Mr. T.J. Nagle Jr., was found to have a slight nasal discharge post race.
051D Boole Handicap Hurdle & S.W. Flanagan, rider of Baily Light, trained by Mr. M.F. Morris, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount pulled up lame. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
051F Mardyke I.N.H. Flat Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Abarta, trained by Mr. V.T. O’Brien, was found to be coughing post race.
Dundalk Meeting, 1st April 2011
052A Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards received a report from Mr. W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the failure of G.J. Phillips, rider of Primalova, placed second, to weigh in after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that it was a complete oversight on his part for which he apologised.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Primalova in accordance with the provisions of Rule 230 (ii). Furthermore, they suspended G.J. Phillips for five race days (15th, 16th, 17th, 21st and 23rd April) and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee.
The amended results should now read:- First: Celerina, Second: Catalpa Sail, Third: Liberty Island and Fourth: My Girl Anna.
052C Dundalk Stadium On Facebook Handicap & D.J. Moran, rider of East Of Tara, trained by Mr. Desmond McDonogh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries at the Curragh on 3rd April that his mount travelled well until the turn into the straight, but choked at this point and faded.
052D www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap & The Stewards enquired into two incidents in this race, the first of which occurred inside the two furlong marker and involved the winner Dahindar, ridden by P.B. Beggy, Six Of Hearts (GB), ridden by D.J. Moran, The Tooth Fairy, ridden by G.F. Carroll, and Tsar Paul, ridden by W.M. Lordan, all unplaced. The second incident occurred outside the one furlong marker and involved Six Of Hearts (GB), and Tsar Paul.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that P.B. Beggy had ridden carelessly in the first incident and they therefore severely cautioned him. As a result of D.J. Moran’s riding in the second incident, the Stewards advised him to ride with more care in the future.
052E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction Fillies Maiden & The Stewards informed Mr. K.J. Condon, trainer of Footcycle, that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.
Gowran Park Meeting, 2nd April 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: Mr. R.O. Harding replaced Mr. B. O’Neill (see enquiry) on Celtic Ruby, trained by Mr. P.G. Coffee (sixth race) and Mr. M. Fahey replaced Mr. B.P. Fahey (injured) on Niamh Machine, trained by Mr. P.G. Fahey (sixth race).
053A Mullinavat Novice Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Shot From The Hip (GER), trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, was found to be coughing post race.
053B Inistioge Maiden Hurdle & B.J. Cooper, rider of Sir Walter Raleigh (GB), trained by Mr. C.A. McBratney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly in the early stages and hung left in the closing stages.
The Stewards fined Mr. F. Flood, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Jessies Girl in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
Mr. Anthony John Black, trainer of Garraheen Chief, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 4th April that his charge scoped badly post race.
053C Freshford Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. F. Flood, trainer of Lascalahall, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared to his last run at Navan on 13th March.
Mr. Flood reported that the animal ran well at Navan until tiring after the third last on heavy ground over two miles seven furlongs. He also added that today’s drop in trip on better ground had helped the horse return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
The Stewards fined Mr. F. Flood, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Lascalahall in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
The Stewards fined Mr. Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer, €65 for failing to fit a tongue tie to his charge Kylebeg Krystle, prior to entering the parade ring for this race.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Goidelic, trained by Mr. P.J. Rothwell, suffered a slight overreach on the right fore but was otherwise found to be post race normal.
053D Family Day At Gowran Park – Sunday April 17th Maiden Hurdle & Mr. A.K. Wyse, trainer of Miracle House, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries at Limerick on 3rd April that his charge was struck into in running and was found to be lame post race.
053E Thomastown Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards received a report from Mr. A. Tyrrell, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, that he had not received an up to date passport with validly endorsed vaccinations for the Mr. S. Braddish trained Close Comet, who was a second vaccination check in this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who accepted that, while the vaccinations were in order, the passport was not up to date.
Having considered the evidence and acting in accordance with Rule 90(v), the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Close Comet and fined Mr. Braddish €200.
053F Bennettsbridge I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr. D.J. Hagan, rider of Badger Daly, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the straight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Hagan had used his whip unnecessarily when out of contention and they therefore suspended him for two race days (17th and 21st April).
The Stewards interviewed Mr. M.P. Fogarty, rider of the winner Its Ironic, concerning his use of the whip in the straight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Fogarty had used his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his record in this regard into account, they suspended him for three race days (17th, 21st and 25th April).
The Stewards received a request from Mr. P.G. Coffey, trainer of Celtic Ruby, to substitute the nominated rider Mr. B. O’ Neill, with Mr. R.O. Harding.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that he booked Mr. O’Neill last Sunday to ride his horse, but when he phoned the rider yesterday after declaration time he was informed that he would be riding at a point to point and was therefore unavailable to ride at Gowran Park.
Having considered the evidence and having taken into account the rider’s unavailability for interview, the Stewards referred the mater to the Chief Executive of the Turf Club for further investigation.
Furthermore, the Stewards allowed the substitution of Mr. R.O. Harding.
Mr. W. Halley, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

Curragh Meeting, 3rd April 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: the following riders replaced P.B. Beggy (unwell):- D.P. McDonogh rode JJs Pride, trained by Mr. Paul W. Flynn (first race) and W.J. Supple rode Akasaka, trained by Mr. Edward Lynam (sixth race) and D.P. McDonogh rode MT Weather (reserve), trained by Mr. R. Donohoe (third race).
054A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden & The Stewards interviewed F.M. Berry, rider of the winner Gold Lace, concerning his use of the whip in the final two furlongs.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that this filly has a lot of ability but she was not giving her all until she responded to a few quick hits with the whip. He added that the filly was inclined to hang and was not an easy ride.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that F.M. Berry was in breach of Regulation 10 (3) (failing to give his mount a chance to respond) and they therefore severely cautioned him concerning his responsibility in this regard for the future.
054C Anne Brewster Memorial Loughbrown Stakes & K.J. Manning, rider of Glor Na Mara, trained by Mr. J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Glor Na Mara was found to be post race normal.
Limerick Meeting, 3rd April 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: B.J. Geraghty rode Scottish Boggie (reserve), trained by Mr. C. Byrnes (first race); D.J. Condon replaced P. Carberry (injured) on Medical Card, trained by Mr. Noel Meade (third race); B.J. Geraghty replaced D.J. Condon (Stewards permission) on Monastrell (GB), trained by Mr. Noel Meade (third race); M.J. Ferris rode Castlerock Rose (reserve), trained by Mr. D. Rohan (fourth race); R.M. Power replaced M.J. Bolger (intended mount a non-runner) on Pontiac (FR), trained by Mrs John Harrington (fifth race) and K.M. Donoghue rode Major Sensation (reserve), trained by Mr. A.L.T. Moore (seventh race).
055A Racing In Red (C&G) Maiden Hurdle & Mr. Matthieu Palussiere, trainer of Chiquilline (FR), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
P.T. Enright, rider of Fantastic Strike, trained by Mr. John J. Walsh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly in the early stages, made a respiratory noise in running and needs better ground.
055C Happy Mother’s Day Novice Hurdle & R. Walsh, rider of Lios A Choill, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well early on, but stopped quickly in the straight.
055D Student Raceday April 5th Mares Hurdle & The Stewards enquired from Mr. D.T. Hughes, trainer of the winner Quiet Thought, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared to her previous run at Clonmel on February 3rd when she finished fifth of 15 runners and was beaten a total of 35 lengths.
Mr. Hughes reported that his horse was unable to go the pace over two miles the last day and jumped poorly. He said today’s step up in trip helped her to jump better and travel better and this, in his opinion, brought about an improved performance.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
The Stewards interviewed I.J. McCarthy, rider of Avondhu Lady, placed third, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that I.J. McCarthy had used his whip with excessive frequency in that he failed to give his mount sufficient time to respond.
Having taken the riders previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him for one race day (17th April).
Andrew J. McNamara, rider of Knockbrack Vic, trained by Mr. John J. Walsh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered interference at the start and he lost an iron. He said the horse became detached and was pulled up.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Grancore Girl, trained by Mr. Raymond Hurley, was found to be lame post race.
055E Hugh McMahon Memorial Novice Steeplechase & T.J. Doyle, rider of Healys Bar, trained by Mr. Oliver McKiernan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake and lost his action.
055G Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed M.N. Doran, rider of Tullintain, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that M.N. Doran had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his record into account, they cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
