Downpatrick Meeting, 2nd March 2011
034A Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards received a report from Mr. J.R. Banahan, Turf Club Starter, regarding the fact that D.J. Bates, rider of Mayo Mystique, M.P. Burke, rider of Garamor Boy, and T.C. Carroll, rider of Kid Curry, had all disobeyed him and therefore contributed to the false start.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Banahan and from the rider’s concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the incident and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the riders had disobeyed the starter by anticipating the start. Having taken their respective records in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended both D.J. Bates and M.P. Burke for two race days (17th and 19th March) and T.C. Carroll for three race days (17th, 19th and 24th March).
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Couleur De La Loi, trained by Mr. Michael O’Hare, was found to be post race normal.
034B Audrey Woods Memorial European Breeders Fund Mares Novice Hurdle &
The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Gordon Elliott, trainer of the winner Brave Beauty, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared to her last run at Punchestown on the 16th February where she was beaten 43 lengths.
Mr. Elliott reported that the animal may not have handled the heavy ground on her last run but appeared to relish today’s quicker underfoot conditions. He added that the mare travelled well until the third last hurdle at Punchestown before stopping quickly.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
D.N. Russell, rider of Belle Brook, trained by Mr. Michael Cullen, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and did not handle today’s ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Belle Brook was found to be post race normal.
034D Toals Bookmakers Ulster Grand National European Breeders Fund Handicap Steeplechase & N.P. Madden, rider of Flemensford, trained by Mr. E. McNamara, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and did not handle today’s ground. Gowran Park Meeting, 5th March 2011
035A ‘Tetratema – Son Of The Tetrarch’ Maiden Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that City Line, trained by Mr. John Joseph Murphy, was found to be coughing post race.
035B Great Oak Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed E.F. Power, rider of Homme De La Cour (FR), to seek an explanation as to why he continued in this race when he had pulled up his mount before the penultimate hurdle.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that this gelding has always been a very free type of horse and today was no different. He explained that on pulling up, there were continuous rails on his outside which meant that he had to stay on the hurdle course and he was unable to get his mount back to a walk. He added that he was fully familiar with the Rule relating to pulling up in races.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards gave E.F. Power the benefit of the doubt and took no further action.
A.P. Crowe, rider of Title Race, trained by Mr. Eugene M. O’Sullivan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
035C Goresbridge Handicap Hurdle & P.W. Flood, rider of Whatever Jacksays, trained by Mr. Oliver McKiernan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Karlu (GER), trained by Mr. John C. McConnell, was found to be lame post race.
Mr. W.J. Burke, trainer of King Keano, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 7th March that his charge was found to have a pulled muscle post race.
035E Thomastown Beginners Steeplechase & K.T. Coleman, rider of Steady Ed, trained by Mr. John J. Walsh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran well to the fourth last fence, but made a respiratory noise from thereon.
Naas Meeting, 6th March 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: T.C. Carroll rode Accordion To Paddy (reserve), trained by Mr. Michael O’Hare (fourth race) and A.P. Cawley replaced B.F. Cawley (unwell) on Mkenzy, trained by Mr. Paul John Gilligan (sixth race).
036B www.naasracecourse.com Novice Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Cottrelsbooley, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, was found to be clinically abnormal post race.
036F Naas Racecourse On Facebook Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. P.J. Gilligan, trainer of Mkenzy, concerning the poor performance of his horse. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that he could offer no excuse for the poor run.
Following the running of this race Mkenzy was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted that this horse had a previous performance warning this year and they therefore suspended Mkenzy for 60 days.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Mkenzy, trained by Mr. Paul John Gilligan, was found to be post race normal.
