The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Captains Nephew, ridden by J.P. O'Sullivan and trained by P.J. Rothwell. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. J.P. O'Sullivan stated that his instructions were to drop out as it can be a difficult ride, to get him relaxed and jumping and to do the best he could. He said his mount took a while to settle, raced wide at the bends and stayed on one paced in the home straight. He further added that his mount met with interference at the last which slowed his momentum. P.J. Rothwell confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He further added that his charge would benefit from a step up in trip. The Stewards also received a report from the I.H.R.B. Veterinary Officer who stated that the animal was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
