Steward Secretaries (Full/Part-time positions)
16 August 2020The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the Racing Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland.
The IHRB is now seeking to recruit full / part-time Stewards’ Secretaries to meet current and future anticipated requirements within the organisation.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Reporting to the Head of Stewarding, the person(s) appointed will carry out the role of Stewards’ Secretary but may also be required to work in other areas.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Officiating at racemeetings
- Observing races and dealing with breaches of any raceday rule
- Presentation of cases before the raceday stewards and disciplinary hearings
- Preparation and publication of rulings and decisions of raceday stewards
- Advising the raceday stewards on the interpretation of the Rules and Regulations
Key Attributes
- have a thorough knowledge of horseracing and the Rules of Racing and Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Rules
- have an ability to interpret and apply rules
- be a top-class race reader and be able to analyse situations quickly in a pressurised environment.
- have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, be computer proficient and hold a full driving licence
- be prepared to work with a degree of flexibility (including weekends) to meet deadlines and the demands of the fixture list
- strong leadership and team skills
- strong analytical and decision-making skills
Desirable Attributes
- ability to deal with media
- third level or relevant qualification
