270C Maddens Bar & Restaurant H'cap S'chase

The Stewards fined Michael J. McDonagh, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Crazywork De Vassy (FR), in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

The Stewards interviewed Mr R.P. Quinlan, rider of Pumbaa, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr R.P. Quinlan was in breach of R10(3)(e) by using his whip other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters and therefore cautioned him having taken his good previous record into consideration.

270D Frank O'Beirne Memorial Beginners S'ch

The Stewards enquired into possible interference close to the winning post involving Robin Des Mana, ridden by D.N. Russell, placed third and Class Honours, ridden by A.E. Lynch, placed second, where it appeared that both horses came close together. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judges placings' and took no further action.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Danboru, ridden by John J Fitzpatrick, and trained by A.J.Martin. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. John J Fitzpatrick, stated that he was familiar with the animal having schooled him at home. He said that he was instructed to jump off last and get his mount to settle and to do his best. He added that his mount got lit up before the race started and in running he jumped him off at the rear as he can be very hard on himself. He felt that he was keen early on when on the tail of the second last horse, settled after the first circuit but was never travelling well enough and eventually struggled when coming off the bridle going out on the final circuit. In his opinion his mount had nothing to offer and only secured fourth place when passing a tired horse. A.J.Martin confirmed the instructions and claimed that this animal was a difficult type who was not easily handled and the ride was given to John Fitzpatrick as he gets on well with him. He felt that the rider had handled the horse very well but possibly could have been a bit stronger on him in the last half of the race and this may have resulted in a closer finish but still would only have achieved fourth place. He considered that the animal had little ability. Evidence was also heard from Shay Quinn, Turf Club N.H Handicapper. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Danboru was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainers explanation and cautioned John J. Fitzpatrick that he must be seen to make a greater effort in the future.

Niall Moran, trainer of The Drunken Dr, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge pulled a hind shoe during this race.

Owing to the ground conditions, the Stewards granted permission for fence #3 to be omitted from all races today. Fence #1 was also omitted for the seventh race because of the unfit ground conditions in that area.
