Point-To-Point Officials and Veterinary Officers (part-time)

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland. The IHRB is responsible for the integrity and reputation of Irish horseracing. It is also responsible for the licensing of all participants in Irish racing.

The IHRB wishes to recruit part-time Point-To-Point Officials and Veterinary Officers to join a panel to be available to work at point-to-point meetings throughout Ireland during the point-to-point season which runs from October to June.

Reporting to the Registrar of the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee, the main responsibilities for each role will include:

Point-to-Point Officials

  1. Stewards Secretaries
    • Advising the acting stewards on the application of the Regulations for Point to Point Steeplechases
    • Acting as a steward on a race day
  2. Inspector of Courses
    • Pre-racing Inspections of point to point venues to determine suitability for racing
    • Provide recommendations on track layout and ground related matters
    • Monitor safety limits and other safety concerns at point-to-point venues making recommendations as required.
  3. Veterinary Assistants
    • Sampling and identification of horses
    • Assisting the veterinary officer
  4. Camera Operators
    • Setting up and operating the camera system to assist the Judge and record results of races
     

Veterinary Officers

  • Veterinary Officers
    • Supervising the sampling unit and the clinical examination of horses
    • Provision of advice on veterinary matters to the stewards
    • Identification of horses

 

All roles will involve weekend work and flexibility is required.

Experience/Skills required

Applicants should have:

  • Sound knowledge and experience relevant to the position applied for
  • Detailed knowledge of racing including point-to-point racing including the rules and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, computer proficient and a full driver’s licence
  • High degree of attention to detail and an effective team player
  • The highest standards of integrity, diplomacy and discretion

Applicants for the veterinary officer role must be qualified veterinary surgeons with experience of working with horses and 5 years post qualification experience.
