PART-TIME RACING OFFICIAL – STEWARDS’ SECRETARIES
20 May 2022The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland, responsible for protecting the integrity and reputation of Irish horseracing. It is also responsible for the licensing of all participants in Irish racing.
The IHRB is now seeking to recruit part-time Racing Officials, initially as Stewards’ Secretaries, who will form part of a team of Raceday Officials present at every racemeeting to oversee all regulatory matters. These roles will also involve working closely with the Raceday Stewards.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The persons appointed will primarily carry out the role of Stewards’ Secretary but the role may involve work in other areas of the organisation, both on and off the racecourse, as required.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Officiating at racemeetings
- Observing races and dealing with breaches of any raceday rule.
- Presentation of cases before the raceday stewards and disciplinary hearings
- Preparation and publication of enquiry reports.
- Communicating raceday information from Stewards Rooms to the public through our social media channels
- Advising the Raceday Stewards on the interpretation of the Rules and Regulations
PERSON
Applicants should
- have a thorough knowledge of horseracing and the Rules of Racing and Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Rules
- have an ability to interpret and apply rules
- be a top-class race reader and be able to analyse situations quickly in a pressurised environment.
- have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, be computer proficient and hold a full driving license
- be prepared to work both as part of a team and independently
- be prepared to work evenings and weekends and with a degree of flexibility to meet deadlines and the demands of the fixture list
- have an ability to work in dynamic situations
- third level or relevant qualification desirable
