PART-TIME RACING OFFICIAL - CLERK OF THE COURSE (SOUTH)
20 May 2022The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland, responsible for protecting the integrity and reputation of Irish horseracing. It is also responsible for the licensing of all participants in Irish racing.
The IHRB is now seeking to recruit one part-time Racing Official, primarily to perform the role of Clerk of the Course, based in the Southern half of the country. Reporting to the Head of Raceday Operations, this person will form part of a team of Raceday Officials working at racemeetings for the IHRB.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The person appointed will primarily carry out the role of Clerk of the Course, but the role may involve work in other areas of the organisation, both on and off the racecourse, as required. As Clerk of the Course, they will liaise closely with Racecourse Managers and ground staff, HRI and other stakeholders in the industry.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Pre-racing Inspections of the course to determine its suitability for racing and to lay out the track.
- Describing the going accurately.
- Overseeing the general arrangements of a race meeting.
- Co-ordinating the functions of IHRB, racing professionals and various other stakeholders to ensure a successful race meeting.
In addition, the Clerk of the Course will offer strategic and developmental advice on behalf of IHRB to racecourses when required.
PERSON
Applicants should
- have a thorough knowledge of horseracing, together with an understanding of the requirements of the Regulatory Body.
- have experience and an understanding of track layout for horse racing
- have an ability to interpret and apply rules as they relate to the Clerk of the Course and demonstrate attention to detail
- have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, be computer proficient and hold a full driving license
- be prepared to work both as part of a team and independently
- be prepared to work evenings and weekends and with a degree of flexibility to meet deadlines and the demands of the fixture list
- have an ability to work in dynamic situations
