IHRB Racing Official - Clerk of the Course (Part-time)
(Northern based)

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board is the Racing Regulatory Body for horseracing in Ireland. Under the Horse Racing Ireland Act 2016, the IHRB is responsible for ensuring the provision of on-course integrity services by employing horseracing officials including Clerks of the Courses.

The IHRB is now seeking to recruit a Part-Time Clerk of the Course (Northern based) who will report to the Head of Raceday Operations.

Responsibilities and Duties
The person appointed will carry out the role of Clerk of the Course by liaising closely with Racecourse Managers, HRI and other stakeholders in the industry.

Primary responsibilities will include:
• Overseeing the general arrangements of a race meeting to ensure that the requirements as set out in the Rules of Racing and Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Rules are in place
• Pre-racing Inspections of the course to determine its suitability for racing
• Advising on track layout and ground related matters
• Advising on race programmes
• Provision of advice to raceday stewards as required

In addition, the Clerk of the Course will offer strategic and developmental advice on behalf of IHRB to racecourses when required.

Person
Applicants should
• have a thorough knowledge of horseracing and preferably have ridden as a jockey
• have an understanding of the Rules of Racing and Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Rules
• have excellent interpersonal skills, be computer proficient and hold a full driving licence
• be prepared to work both as part of a team and independently.
• be prepared to work with a degree of flexibility (including weekends) to meet deadlines and the demands of the fixture list
• have a detailed knowledge of racing ground conditions
