348A Irish Stallion Farms EBF M'dn H'dle

D.F. O'Regan, rider of Hans Gruber (GB) trained by J.Motherway, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right throughout and was pulled up after running very wide into the straight following difficulty in trying to steer the animal.

M.J. Doyle, rider of Kingoftheroses trained by John Andrew Kinsella, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount travelled in snatches during this race.

D.N. Russell, rider of Au Fleuron (FR), trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount whinnied after passing the finish.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Au Fleuron (FR), trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

J.B. Foley, rider of Petrocco trained by Peter Croke, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not travel during the early part of this race.

The Stewards interviewed Vincent O'Brien, Authorised representative for Matthew J. Smith, trainer, regarding the late arrival of their horses Dartan (GB) and I Am Spider Man into the Parade Ring. Evidence was heard from the trainer's representative who stated that rider's K.M. Donoghue and P.J. Carberry were placed in the previous race which delayed them weighing out to ride Mr Smith's horses. Furthermore Dartan (GB) was difficult to saddle and the application of a tongue strap required additional help. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Matthew J. Smith was in breach of Rule 32(ii) but having taken into consideration his clean previous record and some mitigating circumstances, they cautioned him on this occasion through his representative. Furthermore, they informed Vincent O'Brien to relay to Matthew Smith that he must have sufficient raceday help when running multiple horses in the future. Mr Robert Dore, Chairman of the Acting Stewards absented himself from this enquiry and Justice Leonie Reynolds chaired it.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Jimmy Jimmy, trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame post race.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Gaspard Du Seuil (FR), trained by Henry de Bromhead, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal and noted a small overreach on the left hind heel.

At the request of the Stewards, D.N. Russell, rider of Jimmy Jimmy, trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped indifferently, made a couple of mistakes and did not travel at any stage of this race before being pulled up.

At the request of the Stewards, D.J. O'Keeffe, rider of Gaspard Du Seuil (FR), trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well until stopping quickly after the third last hurdle.

348G Coolmore NH Sires EBF (M) INH Flat Race

At the request of the Stewards, Mr P.W. Mullins, rider of Flemencello, trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was leaning in on the bends and at this stage of the race, she leaned in again, clipped a heel and fell independently. The Stewards reviewed this fall and were satisfied that no action was warranted.

The Stewards interviewed Mr Pat Taaffe, rider of The Model Kingdom, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr Pat Taaffe was in breach of Regulation 10.3 (g) (frequency), and having considered his record in this regard suspended him for 3 racedays.

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the final three furlongs involving Agritime, ridden by Mr M.J.M. O'Sullivan, unplaced, Copper Nation, ridden by Mr T. Hamilton, unplaced, The Model Kingdom, ridden by Mr Pat Taaffe, placed first and Harmonya Maker (FR), ridden by Mr J.J. Codd, placed second, where it appeared there was movement and contact between all horses. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence Mr M.J.M. O'Sullivan stated that his mount was under pressure, hung left and made contact with Copper Nation. Mr T. Hamilton stated that his mount had no more to give when receiving pressure from her outside. Mr Pat Taaffe stated that he had received slight interference from Harmonya Maker (FR) but had maintained a straight line to the finish. Mr J.J. Codd stated that the race got tight at this stage and he had received some contact. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that while an incident had taken place, it would be unfair to apportion any blame as the evidence was inconclusive and felt general bunching had occurred at that part of the race.
