The Stewards interviewed G.B. Noonan, rider of Elite Des Mottes (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence G.B. Noonan accepted that he had breached the whip guidelines and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that G.B. Noonan was in breach of R10(3)(i) by failing to allow his mount at least three strides to respond to the whip. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended G.B. Noonan for two racedays.
343D1 Fexco Asset Finance H'cap H'dleA.W. Short, rider of Duffys Hodey trained by P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left and jumped left.
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Duffys Hodey, ridden by A.W. Short, and trained by P.J. Rothwell. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. A.W. Short, stated that he had never ridden this animal before and had been instructed to drop him in, get him switched off, try and get him to see out his race and to do his best. He described his mount as jumping off on the wrong lead, to have settled well but jumped left and hung to the left. He said that his mount could not go with the leading pack after the third last hurdle after they had quickened down the hill. He did not use his whip as he had been made aware that his mount would not respond to it but admitted that he got going in the straight. He explained that his mount was ridden wide on the best of the ground but had handled this inside track well. P.J. Rothwell, confirmed the riding instructions and informed the Stewards that his charge was a four year old having his first run in a handicap hurdle. He stated that it was unlike his charge to hang. On viewing the video he felt that his charge was off the bridle at the top of the back straight and the rider was pushing his mount without going for the whip. He confirmed at a later stage of this enquiry that the rider had carried out his instructions. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Duffys Hodey was noted to have lost a left hind shoe in running otherwise was post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider and the trainer were both in breach of Rule 212A(ii). Having taken their previous records into consideration, the Stewards fined P.J. Rothwell €2,000 and suspended A.W. Short for ten racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee. Furthermore under Rule 212C (d), the Stewards, having taken the previous penalty imposed on Duffys Hodey suspended this animal from running for sixty days.
The Stewards wished to enquire into the running and riding of Strong Roots, ridden by G. Brouder, and trained by Mark Fahey. On the advice of the IHRB Medical Officer, G. Brouder was unfit to attend this enquiry following a fall in the following race which required him to be detained in the medical centre. In the circumstances, the Stewards referred this matter to the Referrals Committee for hearing.
343D2 Fexco Asset Finance H'cap H'dleThe Stewards enquired into possible interference inside the final one hundred and fifty yards involving Secret Sea, ridden by D.J. McInerney, placed first and Global Mayhem, ridden by T.N. Brett, placed second, where it appeared that Secret Sea drifted right and made contact with Global Mayhem. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence T.N. Brett stated that he was upsides the winner when he received a bump which caused his mount to lose ground. D.J. McInerney stated that he was upsides when he changed his hands and his mount veered right into Global Mayhem but went on to win under a hands and heels ride. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that while Secret Sea had caused interference to Global Mayhem, she did not improve her finishing position as a result of this interference so they made no alteration to the Judge's placings.
343F Patrickswell Opportunity H'cap H'dleThe Stewards enquired into possible interference from the final hurdle to the winning post involving Galypso Clermont (FR), ridden by R. Deegan, placed first and Kingston Kid, ridden by J.C. Canavan, placed second, where it appeared that Galypso Clermont (FR) drifted to the left and may have carried Kingston Kid in so doing. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence J.C. Canavan stated that his mount was hanging to the right but was carried left by Galypso Clermont (FR) which in his opinion had cost him the race. R. Deegan stated that he was keeping his mount out wide on the good ground but he had drifted and he put his whip down to correct him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that while Galypso Clermont (FR) had caused interference to Kingston Kid, he did not improve his finishing position as a result of this interference so they made no alteration to the Judge's placings. They did, however, give R. Deegan the benefit of the doubt on this occasion but advised him to ride with more awareness in the future. Ms Kate Horgan, Acting Steward, absented herself from this enquiry.
R. Deegan, rider of Galypso Clermont (FR) trained by Paul Nolan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left in the closing stages of this race.
J.C. Canavan, rider of Kingston Kid trained by Eugene M. O'Sullivan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right in the closing stages of this race.
343G Irish EBF (Mares) (L P-A) INH Flat RaceThe Stewards interviewed Miss A. Gordon, rider of She Is Electric, concerning her use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted she was in breach of the Regulation and apologised for her actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that Miss A. Gordon was in breach of R10.3(g)(frequency) and R10.3(i)(time to respond) and considering her record in this regard, they suspended her for 1 raceday.
