The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident before the turn into the straight involving Scenic Look, ridden by D.F. O'Regan, unplaced, Game And Glory, ridden by D. King, placed third, Breezy Bell (GER), ridden by J.C. Gainford, unplaced, and Maggie Walsh, ridden by P.K. Donovan, unplaced, where it appeared that Scenic Look checked. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, D.F. O'Regan stated that the race quickened going to the second last hurdle where his mount jumped slowly leaving him with nowhere to go when the gap closed on the run away from it. J.C. Gainford stated that his mount landed running over the second last hurdle and he kept a straight line while the runners were bunching at this point. P.K. Donovan stated that his mount was unable to hold her position and did not receive any interference. D. King stated that his mount quickened up going to the second last hurdle and got away from it very fast to get into a gap that appeared. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards took no further action.

047E Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Nov' S'ch

The Raceday Stewards interviewed J.C. Gainford, rider of Irish Blaze, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence J.C. Gainford admitted that he had exceeded the whip guidelines for frequency and added that his mount got close to the second last fence and he used the whip to get his mount back into contention. Furthermore, the fall of the leader at the final fence presented him with a winning opportunity as he chased the new leader Tyre Kicker (Fr). Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that J.C. Gainford was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Raceday Stewards suspended J.C. Gainford for seven racedays.

A.P. Kelly, rider of Birchdale, trained by E. Bolger, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount blew up going to the last and pulled up.

K. Callaghan, rider of Kitty Galore, trained by John Patrick Ryan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount pulled too hard throughout the race.

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Noel Meade, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Lieutenant Command (FR), placed first, as compared with its previous run in the Thyestes Grade A Handicap Steeplechase on soft to heavy ground at Gowran Park on the 26th January when pulled up. Noel Meade reported that his charge appreciated the better underfoot conditions today. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Birchdale, trained by E. Bolger, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to have a wound on the outside of the left fore pastern but otherwise to be post race normal.
