243A Irish EBF Champions Weekend Nursery Hcap

The Stewards requested a report from Edmond Daniel Linehan, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Malbay Madness, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that this horse was off injured for a number of weeks since his last run. Today the step up in trip combined with his liking for the ground in an ordinary race may have accounted for his apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

243B Bordeaux Racecourse Rated Race

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the final furlong involving Entropy, ridden by J. Coen, and Hale Bopp, ridden by M.A. Enright where it appeared Hale Bopp ran short of room on the inner. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. J. Coen gave his evidence in the presence of Ms. E. O'Farrell and stated that his mount was staying straight until coming to the dogleg when his mount rolled to the rail. M.A. Enright stated that the horse on his outer rolled in, came across his mount and he met with interference. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found J. Coen in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having taken his record into account cautioned the rider on this occasion.

M.A. Enright, rider of Hale Bopp trained by G.M.Lyons, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got tight for room close to the finish.

The Stewards requested a report from Kevin Prendergast, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Mudamer, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer's representative Mr. J.C. Harley reported to the Stewards that this horse was badly drawn at Galway last time and did not handle the track. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Benitoite trained by Mrs John Harrington was found to have blood at both nostrils post race.

S.D. Bowen, rider of Jaafel trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was slowly away from the stalls and got no luck in running.

N.M. Crosse, rider of Chilean (GB), trained by Luke Comer, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran around in the straight.

M.A. Enright, rider of Notforalongtime (GB) trained by Laura Hourigan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung badly left.

N.M. Crosse, rider of Fools Glory trained by P.F.McEnery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung on the bend turning in.

The Stewards enquired into an incident in the first furlong involving Ghumama, ridden by J.M. Sheridan, Khafaaq (GB), ridden by A.J. Slattery, Geological, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, Notforalongtime (GB), ridden by M.A. Enright, High Altitude, ridden by R.C. Colgan, Silent Performance, ridden by James J. Doyle, Fools Glory, ridden by N.M. Crosse, Grappa Nonino, ridden by C.D. Hayes, Angel's Trumpet, ridden by B.M. Coen, and James Henry, ridden by J. Kearney where it appeared horses got tight for room on the outer. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. J. Kearney gave his evidence in the presence of Mr. J.F. Levins. J.M. Sheridan stated that he was impeded and took back. A.J. Slattery stated that he got pressure from his outer. D.P. McDonogh stated that he was clear and wasn't aware of any incident in behind. M.A. Enright stated that he took no part in the incident. R.C. Colgan stated that he got pressure from his outer and ran out of room. James J. Doyle stated that he was on the outer and didn't put pressure to his inner. N.M. Crosse stated that he got clear of the incident on the inner. C.D. Hayes stated that he was upsides Angel's Trumpet when he got pressure from his outside and took back. B.M. Coen stated that he got pressure from both sides and had to take back. J. Kearney stated that he got presssure from his outer. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards did not apportion blame to any individual rider and took no further action.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Herring Island trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung in the straight.

L.T. McAteer, rider of Dame Rapide trained by Barry J. Fitzgerald, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was keen the whole way.

243F Killarney Race Goers Apprentice H'cap

J.A. Powell, rider of Missy Zippy, trained by John Stephen O'Donoghue, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount's saddle slipped.

243G Celtic Steps (QR) Race

The Stewards interviewed Mr Pat Taaffe, rider of Jerandme, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. who accepted he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Reg.10.3.(g) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his record into account suspended him for two race days.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of The Shunter, ridden by Mr D. O'Connor, and trained by Emmet Mullins. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Mr D. O'Connor, stated that his instructions were to get him away from stalls as he broke slowly in his previous flat run and get him relaxed. He stayed on the outer for the fresher ground and his horse responded for pressure in the straight as the horses in front came back to him. Emmet Mullins, stated that this horse was very slowly away in Sligo, they were keen to get him away from the stalls and ride the horse from there. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride given. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that The Shunter was post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
