200E BoyleSports H'cap S'chase

The I.H.R.B. Veterinary Officer examined Defan (GB), trained by Henry de Bromhead, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Stewards requested a report from John Patrick Ryan, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of The Dara Man, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge had wind issues in the past and appreciated today's "Good" ground. He added that his charge won at Limerick on the 27th March and went up 13lbs since. In relation to the run at Ballinrobe on 31st May, he expressed disappointment with that performance but noted that his charge was not right in his coat. He advised that his charge was unable to handle the "Heavy" ground conditions at Listowel on the 6th June and most recently over hurdles at Sligo on the 10th July, his charge was prominent when making a mistake at the bottom of the hill which knocked him back but still stayed on to be beaten six lengths. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the content of the report.

At the request of the Stewards, D.J. O'Keeffe, rider of Defan (GB), trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount failed to pick up after the turn into the straight.

200G Christy Lucey (M) (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race

The Stewards interviewed Mr J. Kelly Smith, rider of Fairy Tree, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence the rider accepted that he was in breach of the whip guidelines. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr J. Kelly Smith was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr J. Kelly Smith for two racedays. Mr Michael O'Driscoll, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry.
