The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Somme Soldier, trained by P.G. Fahey, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.

At the request of the Stewards, Mr J.W. Reilly, rider of Alfieri, trained by Ross O'Sullivan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount could not lie up with the early pace, was flat out before passing tired horses after the third last hurdle and stayed on to the finish.

The Stewards interviewed Mr J.J. O'Neill, rider of Dromolought Lad, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, Mr J.J. O'Neill admitted that he had exceeded the guidelines for the permitted use of the whip and furthermore that a few hits were in quick succession. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr J.J. O'Neill was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R10(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr J.J. O'Neill for three racedays.
