The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined The Big Chap, trained by Paul W. Flynn, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of The Big Chap, ridden by L.P. Dempsey, and trained by Paul W. Flynn. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. L.P. Dempsey, stated that he was instructed to drop in about three quarters the way back in the field, get his mount settled, creep into the race and get him to finish as best as possible. He explained that his mount was flat out in the race which was run at a strong gallop and was very green everywhere, running around both to the left and right. He added that he was unable to improve his position as he was jumping indifferently. In his opinion his mount maintained the same speed throughout the entire race and only passed tired horses in the finish. Paul W. Flynn, confirmed the riding instructions and added that he rides this animal out himself as he can be very sharp and at times he has to sit tight. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride and felt that he should improve with fitness having lost a weeks exercise as a result of a stone bruise. He felt that his charge was racing against some experienced horses. In his opinion he thought that his charge would make a staying chaser. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that The Big Chap was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations of both the trainer and rider but reminded L.P. Dempsey concerning his responsibility to be seen to make a greater effort in the future.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference between the final hurdle and the winning post involving Friary Rock (FR), ridden by J.C. Gainford, placed third, Junior Rattler, ridden by B. Browne, placed fifth and Rich Belief (GB), ridden by J.S. McGarvey, placed second, where it appeared that Junior Rattler may have been tight for room when racing close to the running rail. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence B. Browne stated that as he approached a gap between horses, it closed when he got there. J.C. Gainford stated that his mount was hanging towards the running rail and he was doing his best to keep him straight. J.S. McGarvey stated that his mount was hanging in the closing stages and despite he changing his whip hand, the animal continued to hang towards the rails. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judges placings and took no further action other than to advise J.S. McGarvey to ride with more awareness in the future.

The Stewards interviewed Ms. Denise McCourt, Authorised representative for T.G.McCourt, trainer, concerning the behaviour of Dollar Value (USA), who refused to race. Ms. McCourt confirmed the animals previous poor record in this regard and outlined the steps taken by the trainer to address this. The Stewards interviewed J.B. Foley, rider of Tullyveery Lad, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence J.B. Foley stated that his mount was idling badly and he had misjudged the number of times he had used his whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that J.B. Foley was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended J.B. Foley for one raceday.

B.J. Cooper, rider of Petitioner trained by Thomas Cooper, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost his action and was pulled up.

The Stewards enquired into an incident after the final hurdle in the back straight involving Where's Bunny, ridden by J.P. O'Sullivan, placed second, Petitioner, ridden by B.J. Cooper, unplaced and Ocean Legacy, ridden by P.J. O'Hanlon, unplaced, where it appeared that Petitioner got tight for room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence J.P. O'Sullivan stated that he landed into a gap but the race bunched and he was left with little room. B.J. Cooper stated that his mount made a bad mistake jumping the hurdle and he met with interference when trying to take back out of the race. P.J. O'Hanlon stated that his mount was running green when racing away from the hurdle. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by P.J. O'Hanlon riding carelessly, this being a breach of Rule 214. Having taken his previous clean record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned P.J. O'Hanlon on this occasion.
