G Cromwell (Trainer) Referral - Stable Inspection 24 October 2023

13 June 2024

The Referrals Committee, Mr N B Wachman (Chairman), Mr Anthony Byrne and Mr Raymond J McSharry convened at the offices of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on Wednesday, 5 June 2024 to consider whether Mr Gavin Cromwell (Trainer) was in breach of any rules of racing arising from a stable inspection carried out at his Training Establishment on 24 October 2023 by IHRB officials.

On the day, the inspection team noted three horses returned in training were not present for inspection. Mister Wilson and Call Henry were reported to be on a break and Sweet Will was reported sold. As they had not been returned out of training the matter was referred under Rule 148(xii).

In a written submission to the Referrals Committee, Mr Cromwell  accepted he was in breach of the Rule and explained that he failed to return the three horses out of training due to a clerical error.

Having considered the evidence, the Referrals Committee were satisfied that Mr Cromwell was in breach of Rule 148(vi) in respect of three horses. Having considered his record in this regard the panel fined Mr Cromwell €390.

The case was presented by Ms Clíodhna Guy, IHRB Head of Governance and Legal
