Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that L.F. Roche had used his whip with excessive force and frequency and taking into account a recent infringement of the whip Rule suspended L.F. Roche for three race days (6th, 7th and 8th July).

He applied the whip intermittently to keep the filly up to her task and he was conscious at all times that he was giving her a fair chance to respond. He admitted that he could have resisted some of the hits in the straight.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Whelan had used his whip with excessive frequency and taking into account his good previous record in this regard severely cautioned him.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Sun Disc, trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes, was found to be post race normal.

142F Mulranny Park Hotel (Q.R) Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Uncle Taffy, placed fourth, ridden by Mr. Derek O’Connor, and trained by Mr. A.J. Martin.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr. Martin stated that he had instructed the rider to drop his mount in about three quarters way back in the field, keep wide on the better ground and to be aware that his mount has plenty of speed, and to ride him with confidence and do his best. He added that this gelding was having his fifth run in about forty days, his most recent run being two days ago at Gowran Park where he won easily when ridden by R. Walsh and for which he received an eighteen pound penalty. He informed the Stewards that he ran tonight simply because he was twelve pounds better off in the weights and had apparently recovered from his recent run but in hindsight he felt that his charge was possibly gone over the top and consequently struggled to handle the ground. In running he felt that his charge had every chance at the fourth last hurdle even with plenty of ground to make up but off the final bend he flattened and could not pass the horse ahead of him.
In his evidence Mr. O’Connor confirmed the instructions and stated that he was happy with his position at the second last hurdle but his mount flattened out when squeezed and slapped down the shoulder and put in a tired jump at the final hurdle and was well beaten at the finish. He felt that the trainer’s expectations did not materialise as his mount was lifeless in the closing stages and had struggled on the ground around the final bends. He advised the Stewards that any strong handling or whip use would not have achieved any better placing.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Uncle Taffy was found to be blowing hard post race.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence which included the Veterinary report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. They did, however, severely caution Mr. O’Connor that he must be seen to make a better effort at all times in the future.

142G(i) Mask Pavilion (Q.R) Handicap Hurdle (Division One) & The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.A. Ryan, rider of For Sahkey Moony, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that the trainer informed him that his mount was fresh and is inclined to be reluctant to race. Consequently he applied the whip when off the leaders but accepted, in hindsight, that he had nothing to achieve and should have resisted its use and accepted his position.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Ryan had breached R10 (2)(b), in that he used his whip unnecessarily when his chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone. The Stewards therefore suspended him for three race days (5th, 8th and 10th July).
The Stewards interviewed Mr. N.T. Slevin, rider of Western Island, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the final 100 yards.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Codd had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his recent record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for one race day (5th July).
The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.C. Barry, rider of the winner Fortune Seeker, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount was responding all the time but he panicked close to the finish.
