The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Bulbul, ridden by D.P.
McDonogh, and trained by Mr. Kevin Prendergast.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr. Prendergast stated that this was a green filly having her first race and that she was granted permission to load into stalls last. He added that he instructed the rider to win if he could, but that she was only to be ridden hands and was not to be knocked about. He also said he told the rider that only one flick of the whip could be used if it meant the winning of the race. In conclusion he said that he was satisfied that his instructions were carried out to perfection.
In his evidence D.P. McDonogh confirmed the instructions and stated that his mount led off a slow early pace but she was always close to the rails which left him tight for room. He added that the filly hung out from the rails on the approach to the straight and was then stopped in her run off the home bend. He concluded by stating that his mount kept staying on in the straight and attained her best possible placing.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Bulbul was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

205C Exchange Bar Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the start following a number of false starts resulted in a considerable delay to the commencement of this race.
Evidence was heard from Mr J.R. Banahan, Turf Club Starter, and from D.N. Russell, rider of Cut On The Bias
In his evidence Mr Banahan stated that a series of failed attempted starts was caused by a lot of riders who were over anxious at the start because they wanted to be handy. He added that in the first instance he had not called the riders in or indicated a start when a number of them encroached on the tapes. In response he raised the red flag to indicate a false start and the riders returned with the exception of D.N. Russell who in the confusion was unsure whether or not to pull up.
In his evidence D.N. Russell stated that he was unable to pull his mount up before the first hurdle and in the confusion was unsure thereafter whether or not a false start had been called.
Evidence was also heard from Mr. Paddy Barker, white flag man.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. The Stewards also instructed Mr. Banahan to liaise with the Clerk of the Course regarding the layout of this two mile hurdle start.

206B Tramore Races On Facebook Maiden & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Templeton, ridden by W.J. Lee, and trained by Mr. K.J. Condon.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence W.J. Lee stated that the instructions were to settle his mount towards the rear on the rail and to creep into the race without getting there too soon. He added that he got a great run throughout and tracked the leader into the straight. He tried to cajole his mount in the latter stages without resorting to the whip as the horse had a tendency to lean outwards under pressure.
He concluded that in hindsight maybe he should have used the whip a bit sooner.
In his evidence Mr. K.J. Condon confirmed the instructions and added that the horse has a tendency to bleed. He also confirmed his satisfaction with the ride in so far as the rider carried out his instructions. However, he was of the opinion that the whip should have been used at an earlier stage.
Following the running of the race Templeton was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards referred the matter to the Keeper Of The Match book for further investigation.

Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

206E Ladbrokes Mares Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Michael J. Hogan, trainer of the winner Mountain Heather, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to her previous run at Roscommon.
Mr. Hogan reported that his charge possibly needed the outing at Roscommon and that that was her first completed run after a break. He added that the horse obviously enjoys undulating tracks as she had previously won at Downpatrick.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the last hurdle involving the winner Mountain Heather, ridden by Andrew J. McNamara, and The Grey Express (GB), ridden by P. Townend, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards did, however, advise Andrew J McNamara to ride with more care in future.

207C Irish Daily Star Best For Racing Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Seamus Fahey, trainer of the winner Solaras Exhibition, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous couple of runs on the flat.
Mr. Fahey reported that he was very disappointed with the horse’s previous two flat runs, but nothing came to light to explain these disappointing runs. He said that, perhaps in hindsight, the horse was a little weak, but after a short break he has strengthened up well and showed he had improved when finishing second over hurdles earlier in the week. He also felt that the horse got a soft lead today, and any apparent improvement in form may be due to those two factors.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
207E London Southend Airport Handicap & The Stewards received a report from Mr. W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the failure of G.F. Carroll, rider of Wee Giant (USA), placed fourth, to weigh in after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Mr. Fleming.
In his evidence G.F. Carroll stated that having forgot to weigh in, he panicked in the changing room, exited through the emergency exit and presented himself at scales. Mr. Fleming confirmed that when questioned at Scales, G.F. Carroll admitted his actions and apologised.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that G.F. Carroll was in breach of Rule 227 (i) and Rule 272 in that he failed to weigh in. Mr. Johnson reported that his charge won at Yarmouth on 19th July and appeared to be in good form prior to his next two outings, but disappointed. He added that he could find no apparent reason for the poor performances other than to suspect that his charge is not the most consistent type.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
