The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: D.J. Condon rode The Talking Turtle (reserve), trained by Mr. W.J. Burke (second race) and N.P. Madden rode Tin Town Boy (reserve), trained by Mr. H. Rogers (sixth race).

The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. I. Madden for Quartz Debilleron (FR) (ground conditions).

108A June 28th At Sligo Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Some Say, placed second, ridden by D.J. Casey and trained by Mr. J.A. Nash.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In  his evidence D.J. Casey stated that his instructions were to drop the mare in, get her settled, creep into the race and finish as best as he could. He said he jumped off towards the rear of the field, but was nearly brought down at the first hurdle, and his mount had to step over a faller. This resulted in him being further back than he would have wished. He said the horse settled well and travelled fine off what he felt was a fast enough pace on soft ground and the standard of horse in the race. He always felt he was going well enough to win or be placed as he believed the horses in front would all stop on the uphill finish. He said his mount stayed on past tired horses over the last hurdle, but the winner had gotten first run on him, and having given the mare a few smacks, he rode her out hands and heels to the finish.
In his evidence Mr. Nash confirmed the instructions and said that the mare was way too keen on her first start at Clonmel, and the plan today was to get her settled first and foremost so that she could see out the trip and get home, something which she failed to do last time out. He was sure the mare was brought down at the first hurdle, but having seen her travel and jump well thereafter, expressed satisfaction with the horse and the ride. He felt the mare had obtained her best finishing position considering she had been beaten four and a half lengths by the winner Lisrenny Lady (GB).
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Some Say was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

The Stewards received a report from Mr. J.R. Banahan, Turf Club Starter, regarding the fact that D.E. Splaine, rider of Midnight Socialite, and R.C. Colgan, rider of Lisrenny Lady (GB) had anticipated the start of this race and contributed to the false starts.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Banahan and from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the incidents, considered the report, and having taken both riders respective records in this regard into account, the Stewards severely cautioned the two riders.

108C Ladies Day 4th August At Sligo Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Niall Madden, trainer of the winner Highdownhill (NZ), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Punchestown on 9th February where he finished 17th of 19 finishers and was beaten approximately 95 lengths.
Mr. Madden reported that Highdownhill (NZ) had been very disappointing in his three runs to date, but particularly in his last race, which was run on heavy ground. Following this run, it was decided to give the horse a break, freshen him up and bring him back to run in handicaps. Since the horse has come back in, he has strengthened up well. Today he seems to have transferred that improvement to the racecourse and this may have contributed to any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

Mr. P.J. Rothwell, trainer of Menwaal (FR), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge did not act on today’s ground.

108D Sligo Racecourse Maiden Hurdle & N.P. Madden, rider of Fahamore (GB), trained by Mr. Edward P. Harty, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made mistakes at the third and second last hurdles and suffered slight interference after jumping the second last hurdle, but stayed on past tired horses in the straight.

The Stewards fined Mr. Paul Stafford, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Mighty Sange in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

The Stewards fined Mr. Ronald O’Leary, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Kapdor (FR) in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

108E Corner House Bar Ballymote Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident approaching the second last hurdle involving the winner Tin Town Boy, ridden by N.P. Madden, Ross Limestone, ridden by D.J. Casey, placed fifth, and Golan Guy, ridden by R. Walsh, unseated rider, after it appeared that Ross Limestone and Golan Guy both suffered some interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed all the camera angles of the approach to the second last hurdle (which were inconclusive) and having considered the evidence, the Stewards advised N.P. Madden to ride with more care in the future.

P. Carberry, rider of Time Machine (UAE), trained by Mr. Robert Alan Hennessy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not act on today’s ground.

108F Benbulben Mares Handicap Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Dibella, trained by Mr. Paul Nolan, was found to be post race normal.

108G Cleveragh I.N.H. Flat Race & Mr. P.N. O’Brien, rider of Rematch, trained by Mr. T.J. Taaffe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to pick up in the closing stages on today’s ground.

Punchestown Meeting, 25th May 2011

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: Ms. K. Walsh replaced Mr. K.E. Power (unwell) on Charlie Chuckles, trained by Mr. F. Flood (seventh race).

109A Conyngham Cup (Q.R) Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards enquired into two incidents in this race. The first incident occurred shortly after jumping the fifth last fence and involved Optimum Force, ridden by Mr. K.E. Power, placed second, and Not Before Eight, ridden by Mr. M.J. O’Connor, unplaced, after it appeared that Not Before Eight suffered interference. The second incident occurred approaching the fourth last fence involving the winner Lion Na Bearnai, ridden by Mr. M.M. O’Connor, Optimum Force, and Not Before Eight, after it appeared that Optimum Force suffered interference. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. K.E. Power had ridden dangerously in the first incident in that he purposely interfered with Mr. M.J. O’Connor’s mount Not Before Eight. The Stewards  therefore disqualified Optimum Force from second place and placed him last and amended the result to read as follows:- First: Lion Na Bearnai, Second: Sang Bleu, Third: Lusiad, Fourth: Ameretto Son.
Furthermore, the Stewards, having taken his good record in this regard into account, suspended Mr. K.E. Power for 14 race days.
In addition, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. M.J. O’Connor had ridden improperly in the second incident and having taken his good record in this regard into account, they suspended him for four race days (8th, 10th, 12th and 13th June).
Mr. Liam Ward, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
Mr. John Osborne, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry.

109B www.motivatechallenge.com Steeplechase & B.J. Geraghty, rider of Dundrum, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly.

109C jogforjockeys.ie Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. John P. O’Callaghan, trainer of Dazzling Susie, regarding the late arrival of his horse into the Parade Ring for this race.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned and from D.N. Russell, rider.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. O’Callaghan’s excuse was unacceptable and they therefore fined him €150.

109D Harbour View Construction (C&G) Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards fined Mr. Terence O’Brien, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Branch Relief in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

109E Motivate Challenge Supported By Failte Ireland Hurdle & Sabrina J. Harty, trainer of Won In The Dark, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her charge scoped badly post race.

109F ‘Tote Trifecta Rollover’ Handicap Hurdle & M.J. Ferris, rider of Louisiana Gift, trained by Mrs Gillian Callaghan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly at a number of hurdles, found little off the bridle, became tired and was therefore pulled up.

D.N. Russell, rider of Giant Sequoia (USA), trained by Mr. John A. Supple, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running.

Clonmel Meeting, 26th May 2011

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: M.P. Butler rode Gypsy Rose (reserve), trained by Mr. Eoin Doyle (fourth race) and J.L. Cullen replaced M.N. Doran (injured) on  Sligo (GB), trained by Mr. V.T. Keane (seventh race).

110C ‘Girls Night Out At Clonmel Races’ & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Latin Prayer, ridden by C. O’Donoghue, and trained by Mr. John Joseph Murphy.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Mr. Eamonn O’Donovan, Authorised Representative for Mr. Murphy.
In his evidence Mr. O’Donovan stated that the rider was instructed to settle his mount as she can be very keen, race in fourth or fifth place and to do his best. He said the rider was also instructed not to fight with his mount as she is very light mouthed. He added that in his opinion the filly was unable to go with the pace and only stayed on past tired horses.
In his evidence C. O’Donoghue stated that this was his first time to be acquainted with this filly and he confirmed the instructions. He said that in running his mount was unable to go the early pace, so he sat until racing down the hill. At this point she was well on the bridle, but she could not make any challenge unless he switched her to race five horses wide and lose considerable ground. He accepted that she ran on well from the entrance to the straight, but was only passing some tired horses in the process. He felt that if he had got a run down the hill that he would probably have finished closer. He concluded by stating that, in his opinion, this filly needs a trip of one and a half miles with the same class of opposition and to be ridden close to the pace to reap the best result.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Latin Prayer was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

110D Jossestown Handicap & C.D. Hayes, rider of Hilarys First, trained by Mr. Mark L. Fagan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount received slight interference on leaving the stalls and stumbled in the back straight.

110G BBQ @ Clonmel Races June 8th Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Quenzo Pierji (FR), trained and ridden by Mr. M.J. O’Connor.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he intended to drop his mount in towards the rear, get him to switch off and to do his best. He was conscious that his charge had bolted at Kilbeggan when fitted with blinkers and had also some heat in a leg following that run. In running he jumped off five or six lengths further back than he intended, but his mount settled quickly. At the second flight the horse made a mistake and from thereon he appeared to keep changing his legs. Despite being squeezed along the top of the track on the second circuit, his mount he was unable to race any faster. He added that the downhill run was firm and consequently he minded his charge which was now off the bridle. He said he then left the horse alone in the straight as the race was gone at that stage. He was of the opinion that any pressure applied to his mount would not have resulted in him finishing any closer. He feels that his charge needs a level track to produce his best performance.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Quenzo Pierji (FR) had lost a hind shoe in running, knocked into himself and was sore in front post race.
Having considered the veterinary evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

J.R. Barry, rider of Ordinary Man, trained by Mr. W.J. Burke, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very free throughout. He said he held the animal together to get the trip as he is a known bridle horse and that he stayed on in the closing stages.

The Stewards fined Mr. Lawrence Walshe, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Phone Willie in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

111C Probus All-Ireland Rally 2011 Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Gordan Elliott, trainer of the winner Chino Valdes, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse.
Karen Morgan, representing Mr. Elliott reported that the horse is a quirky type who disappointed in his last race when appearing to run flat.  The horse was subsequently given a break, which appears to have rekindled his enthusiasm.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered. ??

The Stewards received a report from Ms. Joan Taylor, Turf Club Veterinary Officer, regarding the fact that Chino Valdes, trained by Mr. Gordan Elliott, appeared to be suffering from an active contagious skin disease.
Evidence was heard from Ms. Taylor, who confirmed that having examined Chino Valdes post race, she found an active progressive form of a skin disease on the girth area.
Evidence was also heard from Karen Morgan, representing Mr. Gordan Elliott, who stated that she had driven the horse to the races and saddled him, but was not aware that the animal was suffering from any disease. Subsequently, she contacted Mr. Elliott who was surprised to hear that the horse had any skin disease and stated that he would not have sent the horse to the races in this condition had he been aware of such a problem.

The mare was subsequently given a break and returned over hurdles at Punchestown when failing to see out the three mile trip. The trainer added that today’s return to fences on good ground over her ideal trip had helped her return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

Having considered the evidence, the Stewards referred the matter to the Chief Executive of The Turf Club for further investigation.

112A www.barclaycomms.com Maiden Hurdle The Stewards requested a report from Mr. K.J. Condon, trainer of the winner Table Forty Six, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared with the mare’s last run at Tipperary where she finished 8th of 18 finishers and was beaten 36 lengths.
Mr. Condon reported that this mare must have fast ground and he felt the watered ground at Tipperary last time, despite being described as good, rode dead and she may not have been as effective on it.  Therefore today’s good to firm ground may have contributed to any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.

R.T. Dunne, rider of She Saval, trained by Mrs Holly McGahan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not jump well early on and made a noise in the closing stages.

Evidence was heard from that the rider concerned, and from Mr. Jason Forsythe, representing Mr. John M. Oxx.
In his evidence J.P. Murtagh stated that his instructions were to drop his horse in from a wide draw, to take his time and creep into the race and ultimately to do his best to win. He said that the horse became fractious in the preliminaries, and having taken his mount back from a wide draw, he was reluctant to make ground wide around horses in the back straight. He also stated that he rode his mount out hands and heals in the straight without resorting to the whip.
In his evidence Mr. Forsythe confirmed the instructions and added that the filly can be temperamental and was very difficult in the preliminaries.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Mountain Woman was found to be post race normal.

Mr. Ger Flynn, representing Mr. Bolger, reported that the horse may not have seen out the trip or handle the ground on her last run. He added that today’s drop in trip on better ground had helped the filly return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

113F AES Handicap & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the straight involving Flavia Tatiana, ridden by J.P. O Brien, placed third, Late Debate (USA), ridden by K.J. Manning, placed fourth, and Via Del Corso (GB), ridden by W.J. Supple, placed fifth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
