134C Ladies Day At Roscommon On July 4th Handicap & The Stewards interviewed Mr. John G. Carr, trainer of Young Lochinvar, concerning the fact that the passport was not lodged on time for this horse, which resulted in the horse being withdrawn from this race.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards fined Mr. Carr €130.
The Stewards interviewed P. Shanahan, rider of Ashton Rose, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount was three lengths off the leader two furlongs out and so he persevered with the whip, and got a good response from the horse who gradually closed the deficit to a head at the winning post.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that P. Shanahan had used his whip with excessive force and frequency. Having taken his good previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him for one race day (28th June).
L.F. Roche, rider of Almadaa (GB), trained by Mr. David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Almadaa (GB) was found to be post race normal.
134D Boylesports Hurdle & Andrew J. McNamara, rider of Benash, trained by Mr. John G. Mr. P.M. Rogers, trainer of Nice Dream (GB), reported to a Turf Club Official that his charge did not handle today’s ground.
134E Abbey Hotel Roscommon Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. S.P. Byrne, rider of Steel Park, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages when out of contention.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Byrne was in breach of R10 2 (b), in that he used his whip after his chances of winning or being placed were clearly gone. The Stewards therefore suspended Mr. Byrne for two race days (1st and 2nd July).
Mr. Steven E. Ryder, trainer of Peacock’s Pride (GB), reported to a Turf Club Official that his charge scoped badly post race.
P.T. Enright, rider of Happy Reunion, trained by Mr. C. Byrnes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up lame.
134F Gerry Igoe Land Drainage Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Clancy Strand (NZ), placed third, ridden by N.P. Madden, and trained by Mr. Niall Madden.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr. Niall Madden stated that he instructed the rider that, in view of the changed going conditions, he was to take his time, ride out wide on the better ground and to do his best without being very hard on the horse. He informed the Stewards that his charge had not run since sustaining a serious tendon injury last October at Fairyhouse and that the animal has a nasal problem as a result of a facial injury he suffered as a young horse. He said this problem is more pronounced when the horse races on softer ground.
In his evidence N.P. Madden confirmed the instructions and said that, having tracked the winner early in the straight, his mount began to hang and he kept him together bearing in mind that this was his first run since a serious injury.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, which stated that Clancy Strand (NZ) has permanent nasal damage on the left side which creates an obstruction, but was otherwise found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
Mr. T.I. Naughton, Chairman of the Acting Stewards, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. Derek Pugh acted as Chairman.
N.P. Madden, rider of Clancy Strand (NZ), trained by Mr. Niall Madden, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a noise in running.
R. Loughran, rider of Par Five, trained by Mr. Niall Madden, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green early on, was outpaced mid race but stayed on in the straight.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.
340E Follow Us On Facebook Maiden & The Stewards interviewed F.M. Berry, rider of Maggie Neary, placed second, concerning his use of the whip inside the final furlong.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount became unbalanced in the closing stages and he pulled his whip through to correct this. In addition he said that the winner began to tire in front and he probably tried a bit too hard to catch him. He accepted that he needs to make more of an effort to correct his whip use and has been trying hard to do this.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that F.M. Berry was in breach of Regulation 10 in that he failed to give his mount time to respond. Having taken his recent record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him from riding for three race days (29th , 30th June and 1st July) and ordered that he attend R.A.C.E. for a one day tuition on the correct use of the whip.
The Stewards fined Mr. Niall Moran, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of The Drunken Dr in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
340G Racing Again September 24th Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Edmond Kent, trainer of the winner Lovers Peace, concerning the apparent improvement in form of this filly compared with her previous run at Leopardstown where she finished eighth of ten runners to Apache.
Mr. Kent stated that at Leopardstown the mare was drawn wide in a better class race. He added that the well watered track today helped his charge along with an extra furlong and an uphill finish.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.

Murphy, trainer of Ask Jack (USA), placed fourth, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse today compared to the animal’s previous run at this track on the 9th June when he finished last of fourteen runners to Mountain Pride.
Mr. Murphy stated that the horse was having his first run in approximately eight months last time. He said the horse had won previously when making the running and the same tactics were employed the last day but the horse, for no apparent reason, did not perform to his best. Today he decided to change tactics and get the horse to race from off the pace and this appeared to have the desired effect.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference early in the straight involving the winner Barack, ridden by B.A. Curtis, Wild Wind (GER), ridden by C. O’Donoghue, placed third, and Future Generation, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, unplaced, after it appeared the latter suffered some interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings, but they advised B.A. Curtis to ride with more care in the future.
Mr. A. Byrne, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that S.H. James had ridden carelessly, and having taken his recent record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (30th June and 1st July).
Mr. J.M. McGrath, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
The Stewards enquired into an incident off the final bend involving Duc De Savoie (USA), ridden by L.F. Roche, placed fourth, and Elusive Ridge, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, unplaced, after it appeared the latter received a bump.

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings, but cautioned M.W. Bowes to ride with more care in the future.
138D Hugo Thomas Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Robert Alan Hennessy, trainer of the winner Soldier Bay (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the animal’s previous number of runs.
Mr. Hennessy reported that Soldier Bay (GB) is a frustrating sort to train, and has been running mainly over two miles to date. Numerous times he travelled well, but seemed to lack the toe in the finish against the two mile horses. He felt he was given a fine patient ride today over two miles and four furlongs in that he crept into the race and finished it out well.
He also reported that he now trains the horse out of the paddock, and a combination of this and the step up in trip seemed to bring about any apparent improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
The Stewards interviewed R.C. Colgan, rider of Brega Queen, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

139D Magners Ulster Derby & The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of Table Mountain, unplaced, after it appeared he stopped riding in the final furlong and lost out on sixth place for which there was prize money.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that his mount was reluctant to race and that the horse’s heart was pounding out of his chest from the moment he sat up on him. He said his mount never felt right and gasped a number of times during the race. Approaching the furlong pole his mount gasped again and he felt he should ease him home to look after him. In hindsight, he said, he should have pulled him up.
Following the running of the race Table Mountain was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer and was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.A. Heffernan was in breach of Rule 212 (a) (i) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to achieve his best possible placing. Mr. O’Dwyer reported that his charge did not see out the three mile trip at Cork and that it was his first run for a year. He added that the horse had progressed from the last run which helped him return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
140D Jack Duggan Memorial Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the failure to provide screens in reasonable time for an injured horse.
Evidence was heard from Mr. Lorcan Wyer, Turf Club Clerk of the Course, who stated that he instructed the foreman mid race to put the screens in place but the response was not as prompt as expected. He added that following another fall an injured rider was being attended to and a hurdle by-pass was also being set up, both of which had contributed to the delay.
Evidence was also heard from Mr. Pat Walsh, Course Foreman, who stated that this had been a particularly eventful race but accepted that the screens should have been in place sooner. He added that the unavailability of screens at every hurdle had also contributed to the problem.
Evidence was also heard from Ms. Margaret Fogarty, Course Manager, who gave a guarantee that in future they would provide a screen at every jump.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned Mr. Walsh and Ms. Fogarty concerning their future responsibilities in this regard and advised them to put procedures in place to help prevent any reoccurrence.
140E jogforjockeys.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards granted permission for the last hurdle to be omitted in this race in the interest of safety due to ground conditions in that area. ??
