The following trainers were fined €200 in each case for the non-production of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194 (v) (vi):- Mr. Eoin Doyle for Sixteen Forty Two (stiff) at Galway on 26th July; Mr. J.J. Lambe for Skylancer (GB) (stone bruise) at Galway on 27th July; Mr. T. Stack for Cnocandancer (in season) and Good Shot Noreen (in season) at Galway on 29th July; Mr. T.J. O’Mara for The Pott Reidy (USA) (bruised foot) at Galway on 30th July and Mr. J.P. Fogarty for Kateeva (in season) at Cork on 31st July.
The following trainer was fined €500 for the non-production of a Veterinary Certificate in accordance with the provisions of Rule 194(v):- Mr. J.J. Lambe.
The following trainer was fined €130 for failing to produce the passport in respect of the winner in accordance with the provision of Rule 90(vi):- Mr. S. Donohoe for Star Links (USA) at Naas on 1st August.
Cork Meeting, 1st August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: The following riders replaced K. Whelan (injured):- T.C. Carroll rode Too Wild For Der, trained by Ms. M. Flynn (first race) and T.P. Treacy rode Cloda’s Choice, trained by Ms. M. Flynn (firth race) and P. Townend replaced D.N. Russell (unwell) on Adropaupep, trained by Mr. C. Byrnes (fifth race).
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Adrian Maguire for Teak (of feed).
192A corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Doonbeg, trained by Mr. J.F. O’Shea, was found to be clinically abnormal post race.
192B Cork Handicap Hurdle & Miss K.J. Harrison, rider of Career Move, trained by Mrs C. Harrison, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount never travelled in this race and is in foal. The trainer subsequently reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Tuesday 2nd August that her charge was found to have a nasal discharge and scoped badly post race.
192D J.P. McManus Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Won In The Dark, trained by Sabrina J. Harty, was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
192E Follow Us On Twitter Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Coosan Belle, ridden by Mr. B. Hayes, placed third, Sea Of Erris, ridden by D.J. Bates, placed fourth, and Minella Special, ridden by A.P. Crowe, placed fifth, after it appeared that the latter ran short of room and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placing. The Stewards were, however, of the opinion that Mr. Hayes had ridden carelessly, and having taken the riders previous record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for three race days (15th, 18th and 19th August).
A.P. Crowe, rider of Minella Special, trained by Mr. John J. Nallen, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount felt unsound before jumping the last hurdle.
T.J. Doyle, rider of Young Patriarch (GB), trained by Mr. Donncha Duggan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that the ground was too quick for his mount and that he never let himself down.
Mr. M.J. O’Connor, rider of Always Brave (GB), trained by Mr. Michael John O’Connor, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up lame.
B.T. O’Connell, rider of Paddy The Ref, trained by Mr. Philip Fenton, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount appeared to be sore on pulling up.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Cloda’s Choice, trained by Ms. M. Flynn, was found to be post race normal. The trainer subsequently reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Tuesday 2nd August that her charge never travelled in this race and was subsequently found to be in season following an veterinary examination post race.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that The Rovers Return, trained by Mr. Seamus Fahey, was found to be lame on his right fore post race.
192F Martinstown Opportuntity Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident on the approach to the last hurdle involving the winner Fearchar, ridden by P.E. Corbett, and Major Harry, ridden by T. Kelly, placed fourth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by Fearchar shying to his left and they therefore took no further action.
192G jogforjockeys.ie I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving the winner Hang On Groovy, ridden by Mr. D. Skehan, and What Are You Up To, ridden by Mr. J.A. Ryan, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental in nature, made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.
Naas Meeting, 1st August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: K.J. Manning replaced D.A. Parkes (Stewards permission) on Buille Cliste, trained by Mr. J.S. Bolger (seventh race) and Ms. K. Walsh replaced Mr. R.P. McNamara (unwell) on Top Flower, trained by Mr. Liam P. Cusack (eighth race).
193C Follow Naas Racecourse On Facebook Handicap & G. Abbas, rider of Atiya, trained by Mr. Patrick J. Flynn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared in the stalls and as a consequence lost considerable ground.
193D Slimzone Supporting Jack And Jill Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. F.F. McGuinness, trainer of the winner Blazing Beacon, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Punchestown on 4th May where he finished last of 19 finishers.
Mr. McGuinness reported that this is a big horse who has had intermittent training problems since winning his maiden hurdle two years ago. He was somewhat surprised by the win today, but since the horse’s last run in May, he has changed his diet and perhaps this has brought about the improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
B.J. Cooper, rider of Quiet Thought, trained by Mr. D.T. Hughes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not travel on the second circuit. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Quiet Thought was found to be clinically abnormal post race.
193E wwwnaasracecourse.com Handicap Hurdle & B.J. Cooper, rider of Spa Wells, trained by Mr. C.A. McBratney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Spa Wells was found to have a wound on his off fore lateral suspensory area post race.
193G Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Solar Verde (GB), trained by Mr. D.K. Weld, was found to have a small amount of mucus following and endoscopic examination post race.
193H Go Racing In Kildare I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr. G. M. Mangan, rider of Shake The Bucket, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he felt his mount was responding to the whip and he had been involved in a tussle in the straight.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Mangan had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (15th and 18th August).
The Stewards received a report from Mr. W. Fleming, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that Mr. P.J. McMahon, rider of Streets of Newyork (GB) placed third, weighed in six pounds light following this race. Subsequently the lead cloth was found in the horse’s stable after the race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned and from Mr. Charles O’Brien, trainer. In his evidence Mr. O’Brien stated that he had obviously forgotten to put the lead cloth on the horse when saddling him prior to the race and accepted full responsibility.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Streets of Newyork (GB) and fined Mr. O’Brien €750 for a breach of Rule 36 (iii), as he had failed to ensure that his horse carried the correct weight. The amended result now reads:- First: Springfield Way; Second: Portion Control; Third: Shake The Bucket; Fourth: Brown One.
Mr. Brendan W. Duke, trainer of Be Direct, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Tuesday 2nd August that his charge was found post race to have had an adverse reaction to feed supplement.
Roscommon Meeting, 2nd August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: The following riders replaced D.N. Russell (injured):- P. Townend rode Face Facts, trained by Mrs Prunella Dobbs (fourth race) and S.W. Jackson rode Mcswynes Bay, trained by Mr. R. McGlinchey (sixth race); the following riders replaced D.J. Casey (injured):- N.P. Madden rode One Fine Morning (GB), trained by Mr. Ronald O’Leary (sixth race) and D.J. Bates rode Calypso Queen (GB), trained by Mr. Eugene M. O’Sullivan (seventh race).
The Stewards fined the following trainers €130 each in respect of their non-runners: Mr. S. Donohoe for The Bay Bandit (GB) and Mr. E. McNamara for Dont Engage Em (withdrawn by Order of the Stewards – passport irregularity).
194B(i) Dysart Maiden Hurdle (Division One) & J.R. Barry, rider of Summer Surprise, trained by Mr. Martin Paul Fitzgerald, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up injured in this race.
194B(ii) Dysart Maiden Hurdle (Division Two) & The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the second last hurdle involving the winner, Prayer From Heaven, ridden by E.F. Power, Walden Prince, ridden by E.J. O’Connell, placed second,
Bundle Of Fun, ridden by P. Townend, placed third, and Summersinerrill, ridden by B.J. Geraghty, placed fourth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the Prayer From Heven had interfered with Walden Prince and in so doing had improved his finishing position. The Stewards therefore amended the Judge’s placings to read as follows: First: Walden Prince; Second: Prayer from Heaven.
The Stewards interviewed E.F. Power, rider of the winner Prayer From Heaven, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who felt that he gave his mount sufficient time to respond.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that E.F. Power had used the whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his good recent record into account, they therefore severely cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
The Stewards interviewed Mr. G.T. Lynch, trainer of Captain Luke, regarding the poor performance of his charge.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that the horse appears to have lost his confidence over jumps following a heavy fall.
Following the running of this race Captain Luke was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards suspended Captain Luke from running over hurdles or fences for 60 days, in accordance with Rule 212(b).
194D Connaught Beginners Steeplechase & P. Townend, rider of For The Staff, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise in running, made a few jumping errors, was hampered by a faller and never travelled thereafter.The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that For The Staff was found to be post race normal.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Ballindrehid, trained by Mr. M. McDonagh, was found to be lame post race.
194F Follow Roscommon On Facebook Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards interviewed D.J. Condon, rider of Golden Alou, placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in the straight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he may have been excessive but felt that his mount was always responding.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that D.J. Condon had used his whip with excessive frequency and therefore suspended him for one race day (18th August).
Sligo Meeting, 3rd August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: C.P. Hoban rode Sadira (reserve), trained by Mr. B.P. Galvin (first race).
195A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden & P.J. Smullen, rider of Beau Amadeus, trained by Mr. Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared leaving the stalls and as a consequence lost considerable ground.
The Stewards fined Mr. A.L.T. Moore, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Oh So Quaint in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
195B Ladies Day At Sligo 4th August Nursery Handicap & The Stewards enquired into two incidents in the back straight involving Hamlet The Dane, ridden by S.H. James, placed fourth, Kanes Pass, ridden by W.J. Lee, and Doonard Prince, ridden by S.A. Gray, both unplaced, after it appeared that Nancy Meehan, ridden C.D. Hayes, and Coppertop, ridden by P.J. Smullen, both had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Mr. John M. Oxx, who accompanied apprentice S.A. Gray at the enquiry.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was as a result of general bunching. However, the Stewards advised both S.A. Gray and S.H. James to ride with more care in future.
195C Foley’s Bar & Off Licence Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Maarek (GB), ridden by W.M. Lordan, placed second, Like Magic, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, placed fourth, and Bankroll (GB), ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed fifth, after it appeared that Like Magic had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards advised R.P. Whelan to ride with more care in future.
195D Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Connacht Oaks Fillies Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident turning into the straight involving Asiya, ridden by L.F. Roche, placed third, and Gypsie Queen, ridden by C.D. Hayes, unplaced, after it appeared that the latter had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that L.F. Roche had ridden carelessly and they therefore suspended him for two race days (17th and 18th August).
K.J. Manning, rider of Hurricane Havoc, trained by Mr. J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost its action and never travelled in the latter stages. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Hurricane Havoc was found to be blowing hard post race.
195E Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Maiden & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. P.F. McEnery, trainer of the winner Regresa A Mi, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s last run at Leopardstown.
Mr. McEnery reported that his charge disappointed at Leopardstown, but was apparently outclassed that day. He added that the drop back to maiden company had helped his charge return to form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
195F 16th August At Sligo Handicap & Mr. Daniel Mark Loughnane, trainer of Ashgrove Nell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was struck into and was found to be lame post race.
B.A. Curtis, rider of Midador, trained by Mr. F. Flood, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not act on today’s ground.
Leopardstown Meeting, 4th August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: P.J. Smullen rode Suehail (GB) (reserve), trained by Mr. David Marnane (first race) and B.A. Curtis rode Bangalore Prince (reserve), trained by Mr. T.G. McCourt (third race).
196A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden & J.P. Murtagh, rider of Akeed Mofeed (GB), trained by Mr. John M. Oxx, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was struck into by a horse in the adjoining stall, was slowly away, ran green and met with interference in the straight.
The Stewards informed Mr. A.P. O’Brien, trainer of Daddy Long Legs (USA) that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.
196B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap & Mr. Thomas James, trainer of Kate Greenaway, reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer prior to racing, that his charge was showing signs of being in season. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
G.F. Carroll, rider of Snap Alam, trained by Ms. Joanna Morgan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with minor interference in the straight, but was beaten at the time.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Dotada, trained by Mr. Peter Casey, was found to be blowing hard post race.
196C Leopardstown.com Handicap & The Stewards interviewed D.M. Grant, rider of Alpha And Omega, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that this horse requires strong handling, but he accepted that he had used his whip excessively.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that D.M. Grant was in breach of Regulation 10.2(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his good record in this regard into account, the Stewards severely cautioned him.
196D ‘Aslan’ Maiden & The Stewards informed Mr. T. Stack, trainer of Miss Fairbanks (GB), that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again.
Sligo Meeting, 4th August 2011
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Seamus Fahey for Dr Dan (declared in error).
197A jogforjockeys.ie Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. Kevin McDonagh, authorised representative for Mr. M. McDonagh, trainer of The Green Olive, regarding the poor performance of the horse.
Evidence was heard from the trainer’s representative.
Following the running of this race The Green Olive was examined by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer at the request of the Stewards and was found to be post race normal.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards suspended The Green Olive for 60 days in accordance with Rule 212(b).
197D Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle & D.R. Fox, rider of Whisky Galore (GB), trained by Mr. Mark Michael McNiff, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled.
197E Guinness Sligo Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards received a report from Mr. P.L. Malone, Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that D.R. Fox, rider of Mighty Whitey, placed fifth, had failed to weigh in after this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he accidentally failed to weigh in.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Mighty Whitey from fifth place and severely cautioned D.R. Fox concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Philip Fenton, trainer of the winner Resolute Bay, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous run at Limerick.
Mr. Fenton reported that his charge disappointed at Limerick when running flat having had three quick runs. He added that, having freshened the horse up since and removed the blinkers, the animal returned to form today.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
P. Townend, rider of Uncle Junior, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped slowly and never travelled.
197F Setanta Screens Maiden Hurdle & Mr. A.K. Wyse, trainer of Miracle House, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Friday 5th August that his charge was found to be lame behind post race.
197G September 28th At Sligo I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed Mr. J.J. Codd, rider of the winner Madam Bovary, concerning his use of the whip.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he felt his mount was responding for the whip and he had been involved in a tussle in the straight.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Codd had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his recent record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for two race days (18th and 19th August).
Tipperary Meeting, 5th August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: The following riders replaced J.P. Murtagh (Stewards permission):- K. Latham rode Angels Art, trained by Mr. G.M. Lyons (first race); The Reaper, trained by Mr. G.M. Lyons (second race) and Group Therapy (GB), trained by Mr. David Barron (in GB) (third race) and P.J. Smullen rode Face Reality (USA), trained by Mr. David Marnane (eighth race); J.P. O’Brien replaced P.J. Smullen (Stewards permission) on Battle Of Saratoga, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien (fifth race).
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Noel Meade for Moving Statue (declared in error).
198D Coolmore Hurricane Run Stakes & C. O’Donoghue, rider of East Meets West, trained by Mr. A.P. O’Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was unable to get a clear run in the straight until close home.
198F(i) Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap (Division One) & The Stewards interviewed Mr. Thomas Gibney and Katherine S. O’Brien, trainer and rider respectively of Hyden, concerning the late arrival of the horse to the start which appeared to contribute to the late start of this race.
In her evidence Katherine S. O’Brien stated that she trotted her mount to the start having been instructed to do so by her trainer. She added that the horse was strong on the way to the start.
In his evidence Mr Thomas Gibney accepted that he failed to seek permission to walk his charge to the start and added that the horse had earlier become fractious in the parade ring. He confirmed that the horse can be free at home.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned Mr. Gibney concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
The Stewards enquired into an incident in the final furlong involving Tres Froide (FR), ridden by G.J. Phillips, placed fourth, Pagan Steps, ridden by M.A. Enright, Strut In Style, ridden by R.A. Doyle, Lombrici, ridden by R. Dawson, and Hollymount King, ridden by R.P. Walsh, all unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Mr. W. McCreery, master of apprentice R.A. Doyle.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that R.A. Doyle had ridden carelessly and they therefore suspended him for three race days (19th, 20th and 22nd August).
Samantha Bell, rider of Homebrew, trained by Mr. M.A. Molloy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount slipped leaving the back straight.
Mr. Patrick Michael Verling, trainer of You Win I Lose, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have mucus in his lungs following an endoscopic examination post race.
198F (ii) Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap (Division Two) & R. Coakley, rider of Cristal Island, trained by Mr. Thomas Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped awkwardly from stalls and that he lost and iron.
198G McGrath Oil Handicap & K.J. Manning, rider of Gold Mirage, trained by Mr. J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became very upset at the start and never travelled in this race. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Gold Mirage was found to be lame post race.
Kilbeggan Meeting, 6th August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: S.G. McDermott replaced M.P. Butler (Stewards permission) on Fly Kiss (GB), trained by Mr. R. Donohoe (second race).
199B Mullingar Mares Novice Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Tiago Vidal, representing Mr. K.J. Condon, trainer of the winner Table Forty Six, regarding the apparent improvement in form of the horse compared with the animal’s previous run at Limerick where she finished last of six runners.
Mr. Vidal reported that today’s improvement was solely down to the application of cheek-pieces, which the horse had also been working well in at home.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
199C Joe Cooney Memorial Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident just before the finish line on the first circuit where Archies Sister, ridden by M. Darcy, hit the rails and Assiduous, ridden by R.C. Colgan, was forced to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
In his evidence M. Darcy stated that his mount took a very keen hold, veered to the inside and ran into the rail after which he pulled the horse up.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further action.

199D Follow Kilbeggan On Facebook Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. V.T. O’Brien, trainer of Must Leave, regarding the poor performance of his charge.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards suspended Must Leave for 60 days.
199F Hackett’s Bookmakers Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Niall Madden, trainer of the winner Wins Now (GB), regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Galway where he finished 12th of 15 finishers.
Mr. Madden reported that front-running tactics were employed with the horse today in the hope of bringing about an improvement in form. The horse seemed to enjoy himself in front and also benefited from a number of fancied horses in the race falling.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
199G Tom Birmingham Menswear I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards fined Mr. Mark Michael McNiff €200 for the late withdrawal of his charge Vinniespride from this race.
Curragh Meeting, 7th August 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: K.J. Manning replaced R.P. Whelan (Stewards permission) on Lonrach, trained by Mr. J.S. Bolger (first race).
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. J.S. Bolger for Tiffilia (off feed).
200A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Shamooda, trained by Mr. John M. Oxx, was found to be post race normal.
200B Keeneland Royal Whip Stakes & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the latter stages of this race involving the winner Banimpire, ridden by K.J. Manning, Dunboyne Express, ridden by D P McDonogh, placed second, Mutahadee, ridden by W.M. Lordan, placed third, Aoife Alainn, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed fourth, Cocozza (USA), ridden by J.P. Murtagh, placed fifth, and Gemstone, ridden by C. O’Donoghue, placed sixth.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference was accidental in nature. The Stewards therefore made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.
200E Keenland Phoenix Stakes & The Stewards enquired into two incidents approximately two furlongs from the finish.
The first incident involved the winner La Collina, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, and Frederick Engels (GB), ridden by J.P. Murtagh, unplaced.
The second incident involved Parish Hall, ridden by K.J. Manning, and Frederick Engels (GB), both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned J.P. Murtagh to ride with more care in relation to the first incident. In relation to the second incident, the Stewards were of the opinion that K.J. Manning had ridden carelessly, and having taken his recent record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for three race days.
The Stewards interviewed D.P. McDonogh, rider of the winner La Collina, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he had used his whip in quick succession in the last 80 yards.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that D.P. McDonogh was in breach of Regulation 10(3), and having taken his good record into account, they therefore cautioned him as to his future responsibilities in this regard.
200G Patrick P. O’Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint Stakes & The Stewards received a request from Mr. David Evans (in GB), trainer of Norville, for his charge to be allowed to run in blinkers today.
Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that in his opinion he had declared blinkers for this horse to Horse Racing Ireland when declaring to run.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards refused the request as they were unable to establish this fact before racetime and blinkers for this horse did not appear either on the race card or on the overnight declaration sheet.

201A One Day At A Time Mares Maiden Hurdle & P. Carberry, rider of Some Fiddle, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly throughout and was pulled up lame. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Some Fiddle was found to be lame in front post race.
201B Blue Ridge Rosebank Novice Hurdle & J.M. Maguire, rider of Atlanta Falcon, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped left throughout. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Atlanta Falcon was found to be post race normal.
201D Hugo Duncan Raceday Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. M.P. Fogarty, rider of the winner Luna Runner, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that the first number of hits were just flicks and he felt his mount was responding from the whip all the way up the straight.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. Fogarty had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having taken his recent record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for three race days (21st, 24th and 25th August) and ordered that he attend R.A.C.E. for a one day tuition on the correct use of the whip.
201E Keeping It Country Handicap Hurdle & D.M. Russell, rider of Shernaz, trained by Mr. J.T.R. Dreaper, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle today’s ground.
201F Magnificent Seven I.N.H. Flat Race Mr. M.J. Scallan, rider of Savello, trained by Mr. J.A. Berry, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung off the bend, jinked left and unseated him.
Mr. M.P. Fogarty, rider of Bridgets Pet, trained by Mr. Kieran Purcell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount clipped heels and unseated him.
