Killarney Meeting, 11th July 2011
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: D.J. Bates rode Weslife (reserve), trained by Mr. I. Madden (sixth race) and R.J. Jones rode Cnoc Seoda (reserve), trained by Mr. Declan Queally (sixth race).
165B John Buckley Auctioneers Handicap & F.M. Berry, rider of Born To Excel (GB), trained by Mr. John Joseph Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared leaving the stalls and lost considerable ground.
165D Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap & PThe Stewards requested a report from Mr. Eamonn O’Donnabhain, representing Mr. John Joseph Murphy, trainer of the winner King’s Road (GB), regarding the apparent improvement of this animal compared with his previous run on the flat at Listowel when the horse finished last and was beaten 32 lengths.
Mr. O’Donnabhain reported that this horse dwelt at the start last time losing some ground. He also felt that the animal did not fully stay the 1 mile 6 furlong trip that day and appreciated today’s and better going.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards, at the request of the trainer Mr. Noel Henley, that African Flight (GB), was found to have pulled a muscle in running.
Killarney Meeting, 12th July 2011
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Patrick Joseph Hayes for Urban Beach (change in going).
The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: R.A. Doyle rode Summer Glow (reserve), trained by Mr. John Joseph Murphy (third race).
166A Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden & Mr. William Hayes, trainer of Honey Queen, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge showed signs of being in season post race.
166B Easy Clean Ltd. Race & The Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after the start of this race involving Giant Step, ridden by W.J. Lee.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount ducked right coming out of the stalls, collided with the rail losing considerable ground and was therefore pulled up.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
166C Corcoran’s Furniture & Carpets Handicap & The Stewards informed Mr. A. J. McNamara, trainer of Mellow Manner, that his charge would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.
G.F. Carroll, rider of Elizabeth Coffee, trained by Mr. M. Halford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost her action at the final bend.
166D Killarney Veterinary Clinic (Q.R.) Race & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Table Forty Six, trained by Mr. K.J. Condon, was found to be blowing hard post race.
166G Race Club At The Malton Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired from Mr. V.T. O’Brien, trainer of the winner Fair Dilemma, concerning the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the animal’s previous run at Listowel when the horse was pulled up in the race won by Baby’s Hot.
Mr. O’Brien reported that the run at Listowel probably came a bit quick after the horse’s previous race which was four days earlier. In addition, he added that today’s ground was much quicker which suited the horse.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
D.J. Casey, rider of Jewel In The Sun, trained by Mr. C.F. Swan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Jewel In The Sun was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
M.J. Ferris, rider of Holiday In Ireland, trained by Mr. W.J. Lanigan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount finished lame.
Dundalk Meeting, 12th July 2011
167A Marshes Shopping Centre Dundalk Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving the winner Liberty Island, ridden by R. Coakley, Ability N Delivery (GB), ridden by F.M. Berry, placed fourth, Mt Weather, ridden by M.C. Hussey, placed fifth, Tsar Paul ridden by J.P. O’Brien and Polly Floyer, ridden by G.J. Phillips, both unplaced.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.P. O’ Brien had ridden carelessly and they therefore suspended him for two racedays (26th and 27th July). Ms Joanna Morgan represented K.J. Condon, Master of R. Coakley, at this enquiry.
167B Hibernia Steel Maiden & The Stewards interviewed Mr. V. Clifford, trainer of Malicious Intent, concerning the conduct of this horse at all times which ultimately led to his withdrawal at the start after he failed to enter the stalls.
Mr. Clifford stated that he has trained this colt since he was a yearling and while he considers him to be coltish he is also a very good ride for any novice rider. He added that the horse originally got his stalls certificate without creating any difficulty. As this was his first run he stabled him overnight and got today’s rider, C.T. Keane, to ride him this morning.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards informed Mr. Clifford that Malicious Intent would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again. Furthermore they also informed Mr. Clifford that any recurrence of todays behaviour by his charge may render the colt liable to suspension.
Mr. Owen Weldon, trainer of Stick On Red, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Wednesday, 13th July 2011 that his charge was found to have a cut behind post race.
167C boylesports.com Handicap & R. Coakley, rider of Brabazon, trained by Mr. Emmet Michael Butterly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was always strugging to go with the pace. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Brabazon was found to be post race normal.
Mr. P.F. O’Donnell, trainer of Keep It Cool, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Wednesday, 13th July 2011, that his charge was found to have burst a blood vessel post race.
167D Proven PR Claiming Race & D.J. Benson, rider of Lombrici, trained by Mr. P.D. Deegan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount clipped heels and stumbled three furlongs from the finish.
167E St. Vincent De Paul Racecourse Rumble – 19th August Handicap & P.B. Beggy, rider of Metropolis, trained by Mr. D.M. Leigh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his saddle slipped before the final bend.
B.A. Curtis, rider of Nomadic Diamond, trained by Ms. Maria Kelly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to be in season post race.
Downpatrick Meeting, 13th July 2011
The Stewards fined the following trainer €200 in respect of his non-runner: Mr. Niall Moran for Live Trade (transport difficulties).
The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: the following riders replaced A.P. Thornton (injured) – S.W. Jackson rode Symphonist (USA), trained by Mr. R.T.J. Wilson (third race), B.T. O’Connell rode Budtairis, trained by Mr. B.R. Hamilton (fourth race) and S.W. Jackson rode Lord Friday, trained by Mr. R. McGlinchey (fifth race).
168A Downpatrick Family Day Fun Maiden Hurdle & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Granaruid, trained by Mr. M. Halford, was found to be post race normal.
168C First Past The Post Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from a representative of Mr. C.A. Murphy, trainer of the winner Shariyan regarding the apparent improvement in form of this animal compared to the horse’s last number of runs.
The trainer’s representative reported that today’s win came as a bit of a surprise following a string of disappointing efforts. He added that the horse had always worked well at home, but up until now had not shown anything on the track. He concluded by saying that today’s conditions of two miles and two furlongs on good ground were exactly what the horse required and had obviously helped the animal to show his true form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Symphonist (USA), trained by Mr. R.T.J. Wilson, was found to be lame post race.
168D Family First Maiden Hurdle & B.J. Cooper, rider of Bandra Bullet, trained by Mr. John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake at the third last hurdle and never travelled thereafter. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Bandra Bullet was found to be post race normal.
168E Joe Rea Memorial Handicap Hurdle & The Steward fined Mr. Daniel O’Gorman, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Alright My Son in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provision of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting: the following riders replaced B.R. Dalton (injured) – R. Loughran rode Quelas (FR), trained by Miss Clodagh Beegan (fourth race), M.P. Walsh rode D’s Trix, trained by Mr. A.J. McNamara (fifth race) and A.P. Crowe rode Peccatorum, trained by A.J. McNamara (sixth race). The following riders replaced R. Walsh (injured) – D.J. Casey rode For The Staff, trained by Mr. W.P. Mullins (fourth race) and R.M. Moran rode Adrianeo, trained by Mr. A.J. Martin (fifth race).
169A Killarney Oils Ltd Maiden & The Stewards interviewed K.C. Sexton, rider of Steel Park, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who admitted he had used his whip excessively and apologised for his actions.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that K.C. Sexton had used his whip with excessive frequency and they therefore severely cautioned him. The Stewards also instructed him to attend RA.C.E. for a one day tuition on the correct use of the whip.
Mr. Ryan McElligott also attended this enquiry representing K.C. Sexton.
Mr. D.J. Barry, trainer of College Sam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge scoped badly post race.
169B Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap & The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving the winner Syann, ridden by S.H. James, Norah Starr, ridden by C.P. Hoban, placed second, Sceal Nua, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, placed third, Spirit of Cuba, ridden by Samantha Bell, placed fourth, and Plum Sugar, ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed fifth. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Mr Fabian Burke also attended this enquiry representing Samantha Bell.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and took no further action other than to advise C.P. Hoban to ride with more care in future.
169C John O’Connor Welding & Engineering Ltd Handicap & PThe Stewards requested a report from Mr. David Marnane, trainer of the winner Grace And Beauty, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with her last run at Fairyhouse where she finished 12th of 17 and was beaten 16 lengths.
The trainer reported that he was very disappointed with the horse’s last run at Fairyhouse and could only conclude that this filly acts best going left-handed.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
C.D. Hayes, rider of Rio Silver, trained by Mr. Joseph G. Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room inside the final furlong and was eased.
169D O’Keeffe’s Marquee Hire Rathmore Beginners Steeplechase & Mrs. Prunella Dobbs, trainer of Our Gar, reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that her charge was found to have an upper respiratory tract infection on endoscopic examination post race.
169E Ladbrokes.com Handicap Steeplechase & R.M. Moran, rider of Adrianeo, trained by Mr. A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stopped quickly. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Adrianeo was found to be clinically abnormal post race.
169F Sheahans Bar Killorglin Handicap Hurdle & T.J. Doyle, rider of Steele’s Rock, trained by Mr. Kieran Purcell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount did not handle the track or appreciate today’s ground.
169G Dr. Crokes GAA Club 125th Anniversary Ladies Flat Race & Mrs. J.E. Pugh, rider of Flying Flame, trained by Mr. John Brassil, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her saddle slipped and she was unseated.
Miss C.M. Walsh, rider of Just Relax, trained by Mr. James M. Barrett, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount cocked its jaw and ran off the bend past the stands.
The Stewards fined Miss Susan A. Finn, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Positive News in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer’s written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

170E Dawn Hi Lo Milk Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving My St Clair, ridden by S.A. Gray, Maunsells Duke, ridden by P. Shanahan and Winnie Minnie, ridden by S.M. Gorey, all unplaced, after it appeared interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that S.M. Gorey had ridden carelessly, and having taken his record into account, they therefore suspended him for one race day (28th July).
D.E. Mullins, rider of Some Slam, trained by Mr. David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared on leaving the stalls and lost considerable ground as a result.
170F Europe Hotel & Resort Handicap & The Stewards interviewed W.J. Lee, rider of Ghareer, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider who conceded that he probably had used his whip excessively but felt his mount was responding well all the way to the line.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that W.J. Lee had used his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his record in this regard into account they therefore suspended him for one race day (28th July).
170G Christy Lucey Transport Ltd. Flat Race & Miss K. Harrington, rider of Maller Tree (GB), trained by Mrs. John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that she lost her irons two and a half furlongs from the finish.
Leopardstown Meeting, 14th July 2011
171E Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap & The Stewards enquired from Mr. J.S. Bolger, trainer of the winner Do The Bosanova, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to her previous run at Roscommon on July 4th when she finished 9th of 13 runners and was beaten 18 lengths.
Mr. Bolger reported that in his opinion, the return to her preferred trip of 10 furlongs and the more favourable ground conditions today contributed to the filly’s improved performance.
Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
D.J. Benson, rider of Solid Air (GB), trained by Mr. Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled.The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Solid Air (GB) was found to be stiff post race.
171F Stillorgan Handicap & The Stewards informed Mr James Halpin, trainer of Boynagh Joy that his charge would have to be re-certified before being declared to run from stalls again. The Stewards also informed Mr. Halpin that a repeat of today’s performance may render the horse liable for suspension
P.J. Smullen, rider of Super Say, trained by Mr. A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stopped very quickly turning for home and blew very hard. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Super Say was found to be post race normal.
Kilbeggan Meeting, 15th July 2011
172A Athlone Maiden Hurdle & P.F. Mangan, rider of Miss Nomer, trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly in the closing stages.
S.G. McDermott, rider of Novarov (GER), trained by Mr. J.F. O’Shea, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped indifferently and stayed on at the same pace past tired horses in the closing stages.
172B Tom McCormack Memorial Cup Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. P.M J Doyle, trainer of the winner Annie Other, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the mare’s previous run at Listowel on 6th June, where she finished 11th of 17 finishers and was beaten 45 lengths.
Mr. Doyle reported that his charge had disappointed at Listowel, but he felt that the ground was a little tacky for her on that occasion. He said that the mare had come off the back of a win at Wexford on fast ground. Mr. Doyle added that today’s faster ground and the use of Easyfix hurdles may, in his opinion, have brought about the improved performance.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
The Stewards fined Mr. Martin Kenirons, trainer, €65 for failing to fit a tongue tie to his charge A Lou Ela prior to entering the parade ring for this race.
B.J. Geraghty, rider of Haventabobphil, trained by Mr. C.A. Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference on the first circuit and had to check.
172C Coola Handicap Hurdle & Mr. N.J. Redmond, rider of Benefit Of Porter, trained by Mr. Patrick Sinnott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran too freely, never settled and tired at the third last hurdle. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Benefit Of Porter was found to be post race normal.
P. Carberry, rider of South Wing, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount missed a few hurdles and never travelled. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that South Wing was found to be post race normal.
B.J. Geraghty, rider of Captain Declan, trained by Mr. Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost its action turning into the home straight and was therefore pulled up. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Captain Declan was found to be post race normal.
172D Ladies Day At Kilbeggan Handicap Hurdle & M.J. Bolger, rider of Johnies Star, trained by Mr. D.M. Leigh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount clipped heels when travelling well and came down.
172E Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Steeplechase & The Stewards enquired into an incident on the bend between the third and fourth fences involving Trendelenburg, ridden by P. Carberry, dead heat for first place, Teresa Malone, ridden by S.G. McDermott, and Brave Eva, ridden by G.N. Fox, both unplaced, after it appeared that Trendelenburg ran short of room and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards advised G.N. Fox to ride with more care in the future.
A.P. Thornton, rider of Huncheon Wells, trained by Mr. R.T.J. Wilson, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly from half way and did not handle today’s ground.
Curragh Meeting, 16th July 2011
The Stewards fined the following trainers €200 each in respect of their non-runners: Mr. C. Roche for Madeira Classic (ground conditions) and Mr. J.S. Bolger for Shazamour (off feed).
173B Liam Browne Lifetime Achievement In Racing Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. S.J. Treacy, trainer of the winner Takasima, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horse’s previous run at Bellewstown where she finished ninth of 16 finishers and was beaten 17 lengths.
Mr. Treacy reported that this mare was a long-standing maiden and he felt she simply got the run of the race from the front today.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
173C Sonia Rogers Lifetime Achievement In Racing Handicap & The Stewards enquired into an incident three furlongs from the finish involving Barrow Island, ridden by J.P. Murtagh, placed fourth, Full Title, ridden by N. G. McCullagh, and Midnight Music, ridden by P.J. Smullen, both unplaced, after it appeared that interference had taken place.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards cautioned J.P. Murtagh to ride with more care in future.
173E Tom Gillson Lifetime Achievement In Racing Nursery Handicap & The Stewards interviewed J.P. Murtagh, rider of Greek Canyon, placed third, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he felt he gave his mount time to respond but possibly went beyond the whip guidelines with regard to frequency.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that J.P. Murtagh had used his whip with excessive frequency and they therefore suspended him for three race days (30th, 31st July and 1st August).
C.D. Hayes, rider of Kingdomforthebride, trained by Mr. J.T. Gorman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost a shoe and hung right as a result.
Mr. B.P. Galvin, trainer of Lady Pastrana, reported to the Office of the Governing Bodies on Monday 18th July that his charge was found to be in season post race.
173F Joe Lynch Lifetime Achievement In Racing Handicap & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. James M. Barrett, trainer of the winner Lake George, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared with the horses’ previous run at Naas where he finished seventh of 19 finishers and was beaten seven lengths.
Mr. Barrett reported that he expected a good run from his charge at Naas, but the horse was slowly away and did not seem to run his race thereafter. Ideally he felt the horse needs seven furlongs, but on today’s softened ground six furlongs was adequate to bring about the improvement in form.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
Karen Kenny, rider of Zhukhov, trained by Mr T.G. McCourt, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount fly leaped coming out of the stalls and lost considerable ground.
R.P. Whelan, rider of Call This Cat, trained by Mr. A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung right throughout.

174B Jebel Ali Stables & Racecourse Anglesey Stakes & K.J. Manning, rider of Zip Top, trained by Mr. J.S. Bolger, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Zip Top was found to be post race normal.
174D Thalgo Ladies Derby Handicap & The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Bondage, trained by Mr. Gordon Elliott, was found to be blowing hard post race.
174F Brady’s Mercedes Benz Rockingham Handicap & The Stewards interviewed Mr. Chris O’Donnell, representing Mr. Pat Morris, trainer of Your Gifted, regarding his apparent failure to declare a five pound penalty at scales as required under Rule 194 (ii).
Evidence was heard from Mr. O’Donnell who stated that the failure to declare the penalty at scales was due to his inability to contact the trainer, who was not present at today’s meeting, in time to declare the penalty.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards found that Mr. Morris, was in breach of Rule 194 (ii), and using their powers under Rule 14 (i) (a), they fined him €200 through his representative.
L.F. Roche, rider of Patrickswell, trained by Mr. Marcus Callaghan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount became upset in the stalls, missed the break and returned with a cut on his face.
174G Fleetwood Paints Handicap & The Stewards interviewed F.M. Berry, rider of Puzzled, placed second, concerning his use of the whip.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who acknowledged he had infringed the whip guidelines with regard to frequency and apologised for his actions.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that F.M. Berry had used his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his record in this regard into account, they therefore suspended him for three race days (31st July, 1st and 3rd August).

The Stewards authorised the following substitution of rider at this meeting: K. Whelan rode Ardghallan (reserve), trained by Mr. Eamonn O’Connell (second race).
175C Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the riding of The Real Article, ridden by P.F. Mangan, and trained by Mr. E.J. O’Grady, from the second last hurdle to the winning post.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr O’Grady stated that The Real Article ran better than expected and that prior to the race he instructed P.F. Mangan to get a lead into the straight, push his mount out hands and heels, but not to use his whip. Mr. O’Grady added that he was surprised with the run and was satisfied with the ride.
In his evidence Mr. Mangan stated that it looked a good class race and confirmed that he rode to instructions. He said he thought his mount was travelling very well between the final two hurdles and hoped that the horse would arrive to win his race on the line. He confirmed that he pushed his mount out hands and heels and did not use his whip as instructed and was satisfied that he had achieved his best possible placing.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
175E Martinstown Opportunity Hanidcap Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Paddy The Ref, ridden by S.J. Hassett, and trained by Mr. Philip Fenton.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
In his evidence Mr. Fenton stated that this is a horse that has shown plenty of ability but has been off the track for over twelve months with leg trouble. He stated that he instructed the rider to ride towards the back of the field, settle his mount and do the best he could. Mr Fenton added that he was satisfied with the ride.
In his evidence S.J. Hassett confirmed the instructions and stated that he settled his mount as instructed, but the horse made a mistake at the third last hurdle after which the animal began to blow. He stated that he allowed his mount time to fill his lungs in order to get him home and added that he felt he had achieved his best possible placing.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer stating that Paddy The Ref was found to be lame post race.
Having taken the veterinary report into account, the Stewards took no further action.
175F www.thetote.com Galway Plate Trial Handicap Steeplechase & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Luke Comer, trainer of the winner Tajweed, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his charge compared to the horse’s previous run over fences at Fairyhouse on April 24th when he finished last of nine finishers to Campbonnais and was beaten 90 lengths.
Mr Comer reported that his charge needs to be ridden up with the pace as he was when winning at Naas on his last Flat run. Mr Comer added that the horse was slowly away at Fairyhouse, became detached and lost interest. On his return to fences today, the horse was ridden up with the pace and this, in his opinion, brought about the improved performance.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Wickham Street, trained by Mr. T. Stack, was found to be lame post race.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Model County Lass, trained by Mr. Colin Bowe, was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
Mr. John O’Callaghan, trainer of Swift Counsel, reported to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that his charge was found to be post race normal following an endoscopic examination post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
175G Jim Ryan Racecourse Services I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards interviewed all the riders who rode in this race namely Mr. B. O’Neill, Mr. C. Motherway, Mr. T. Dowling, Mr. M.P. Fogarty, Mr. M.M. O’Connor, Mr. P. Roche, Mr. B. Hayes, and Mr. E. O’Connell, concerning their actions after Mr. Derek Cullen, Turf Club Starter, had affected a fair start when all horses were reluctant to break away into racing pace, which subsequently produced a slowly run race.
Evidence was heard from all the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the start and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that all riders were in breech of R 211 (d) and fined them €75 each.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving the winner Donatis Comet, ridden by Mr. B. O’Neill, and Competitive Edge, ridden by Mr. M.M. O’Connor, placed second.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alterations to the Judge’s placings and took no further action.
