She felt in running that the animal jumped well, but blew up after the third last. She concluded by stating that she was satisfied with the ride, and having noticed that her charge gave a strong blow post race, she expected gradual improvement from him in the future.

Mr. McKiernan reported that he bred this gelding and that the horse had shown little in the past when running on soft underfoot conditions. He added that his work improved noticeably when the ground dried recently and his final piece of work suggested that he needed good ground. He added that he had concerns about the animal getting the two mile four furlong trip and knew after the second last hurdle that he was holding onto an empty horse and was hoping that nothing would deliver a challenge. Sligo Meeting, 1st May 2011
081A ‘Join the 2011 Sligo Race Supporters Club’ Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards requested a report from Mr. Michael T. Moran, trainer of the winner Laffan Island, regarding the apparent improvement in form of his horse compared to the animal’s previous number of runs, particularly his last run at Downpatrick on 27th March 2011 where he finished 96 lengths last of ten runners.
Mr. Moran reported that the horse went off favourite for his race at Wexford three runs ago at the meeting that was subsequently abandoned due to ground concerns. He ran poorly and the trainer thought it was due to the ground. He brought the horse to Limerick next, where he was in contention at the 3rd last only to fold tamely once surrounded by horses. Mr. Moran reported that he decided to give his charge a break and run him with a set of blinkers at Downpatrick last time, but his charge ran very disappointingly, and may have resented the application of blinkers. He attributed any apparent improvement in form today to leaving the blinkers off and changing his tactics so that his charge was ridden handier and not surrounded by horses.
Having considered the report, the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
R. Walsh, rider of High Cian, trained by Mr. A.J. Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was found to have a burst blood vessel post race. This was confirmed to the Stewards by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer.
S.J. Hassett, rider of Shesonlyahorse, trained by Mr. M. McDonagh, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled on today’s ground.
081D Smirnoff Mares Maiden Hurdle & The Stewards enquired into an incident on the run to the second last hurdle involving the winner Riltree (FR), ridden by P. Townend, Geestring, ridden by I.J. McCarthy, placed fourth, and Barefield, ridden by M.W. Bowes, unplaced, where it appeared that Barefield suffered some interference and had to check.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards advised I.J. McCarthy to ride with more care in future.
P. Carberry, rider of Presenting Ruby, trained by Mr. S.R.B. Crawford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that he felt his mount was beaten after jumping the first hurdle. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Presenting Ruby was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
081F Sponsor A Race At Sligo Handicap Hurdle & The Stewards interviewed Mr. James Francis Brennan, trainer of Ballintemple Star, concerning the late withdrawal of his horse from this race due to ground conditions.
Mr. Brennan stated that he walked the course on arrival and felt that the track had dried out and was gone firm in places. He said he witnessed two horses pulling up early in the first two races and felt that, in the interest of his horse, it was safer to withdraw him.
Evidence was heard from Mr Lorcan Wyer, Turf Club Clerk of the Course, who felt that the ground staff had done a fantastic job with the track. He said that, while it did dry out during the day, the ground was still, in his opinion, good to firm as described at declaration time.
Having considered the circumstances, the Stewards were of the opinion that the excuse for withdrawing (ground) was unacceptable and they fined Mr Brennan €200. The Stewards waived any additional fine for the late withdrawal.
Mr. J.J. Lambe, trainer of Inner Voice (USA), reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his charge was found to have a burst blood vessel post race.
081G www.countysligoraces.com (Pro/Am) I.N.H. Flat Race & The Stewards enquired into an incident on the bend past the stands on the first circuit involving the winner Canadian Diamond, ridden by Mr. M.P. Fogarty, Be All Man, ridden by Ms. K. Walsh, placed second, Faithless, ridden by Mr. M.M. O’Connor, Inaworldofmyown, ridden by Ms. N. Carberry, Lord Baltimore, ridden by Mr. M. Fahey, Star Of Boru, ridden by J.P. Holly, Flags Flying, ridden by D.E. Splaine and Hi Kort Lady, ridden by P.E. Corbett, all unplaced, after these horses ran off the bend, while Flags Flying was carried out over the outside rail.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards considered the incident to be accidental in nature and did not apportion blame to any individual. In the evidence given the Stewards noted that there were a number of contributing factors, which included the fact that this was a race for four-year-olds only and most of them were inexperienced. They also noted that the incident took place on the first bend after the start, where many of the horses were running free off a slow pace and some were aware of the stableyard.
