025A Winter Series Awards At Dundalk H'cap

Sam Ewing, rider of Ajax Tavern (GB) trained by James McAuley, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right throughout.

The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of No Trouble, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence J.A. Heffernan admitted that he had used his whip with his arm above shoulder height and offered no defence. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that J.A. Heffernan was in breach of R10(3)(h) by using his whip with his arm above shoulder height. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended J.A. Heffernan for eleven racedays pursuant to the provisions of R10(6)(a).

D. McMonagle, rider of Dartan (GB) trained by Matthew J. Smith, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was slowly away out of stalls and leaned left in the straight.

C.D. Hayes, rider of Scott Lang trained by Adrian Murray, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was carried a bit to the left in the straight.

The Stewards interviewed H.J. Horgan, rider of Dances With Stars, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, H.J. Horgan admitted that he had failed to give his mount time to respond to his use of the whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that H.J. Horgan was in breach of R10(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended H.J. Horgan for six racedays pursuant to the provisions of R10(6)(a).

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Double Kodiac, trained by Noel C. Kelly, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

J.J.G. Ryan, rider of Final Fantasy (GB) trained by T.G.McCourt, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran very keen and hung badly.

C.J. MacRedmond, rider of She's Good Company trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount received a bad bump on the first bend.

The Stewards interviewed Cillian McConnell, rider of Kartayaz, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, Cillian McConnell admitted that he had breached the whip guidelines. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Cillian McConnell was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Cillian McConnell for six racedays pursuant to the provisions of R10(6)(a).

The Stewards enquired into an incident on the first bend involving Munfallet, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, Final Fantasy (GB), ridden by J.J.G Ryan, She's Good Company, ridden by C. J. MacRedmond and Samaritaine (GB), ridden by Aileen O'Sullivan, where it appeared that Final Fantasy (GB) may have tightened the runners on her inside at that point. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence N.G. McCullagh stated that he had the rail position and got tightened from the outside. Aileen O'Sullivan stated that she was alongside N.G. McCullagh when she received pressure from her outside and had to check. C.J. MacRedmond stated that he had to check off the heels of Final Fantasy (GB) when that animal moved across in front of him. J.J.G. Ryan stated that his mount got very keen, started to hang in badly and he got no response from her when he attempted to correct her. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found J.J.G. Ryan was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly, and having considered his record in this regard the Stewards suspended him for three racedays. Ms Elaine O'Farrell accompanied J.J.G. Ryan at this enquiry.

J.A. Heffernan, rider of Kirsapp trained by J.G.Coogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was carried to the right in the straight by Dubirango when the left rein broke on that animal. The Stewards reviewed the incident and were satisfied that no further action was warranted.

W.J. Lee, rider of Cherry Bloom trained by Gillian Scott, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount rolled right in the straight.

At the request of the Stewards, S.D. Bowen, rider of Dubirango, trained by F.Birrane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his left rein broke when passing the paddock entrance.

The Stewards enquired into incidents in the final furlong involving The Pargey Bee, ridden by D.W. O'Connor and Clarinbridge, ridden by R.P. Whelan, where it appeared The Pargee Bee drifted right and may have collided with Clarinbridge. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence R.P. Whelan stated that his filly was small in stature and may have been intimidated by the drift of The Pargey Bee which resulted in slight contact between them. D.W. O'Connor stated that his mount ran green and was intimidated by the outward drift of Kirsapp which was racing about a half a length in front of his own mount. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no action other than to advise D.W. O'Connor to ride with more awareness.

R. Whearty, rider of Basrah Breeze trained by E. D. Delany, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got upset in the starting stalls.

At the request of the Stewards, D. McMonagle, rider of Pink Sky At Night, trained by John C. Shearman, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was small in stature, ran very green and was not a great mover .

The Stewards interviewed A.J. Slattery, rider of Knightlaila (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, A.J. Slattery admitted the offence and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that A.J. Slattery was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended A.J. Slattery for two racedays.
