The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Turnpike Trip (GB), ridden by S.P. Davis, and trained by C.Byrnes. Evidence was heard from the rider and the trainer's Authorised Representative, Mr. Cathal Byrnes. S.P. Davis, stated that his instructions were to jump away mid division, get him travelling, keep him sweet as he sulked in Galway and finish as best he could. Today he was ridden in a chifney rather than a snaffle and the bit bothered him in the early part of the race as he was throwing his head around as he tried to get him to relax. He was on the wrong lead going into the final bend. In the straight he gave him a few backhanders. He felt he ran a better race today, where he jumped from stalls and travelled better than at Galway. Cathal Byrnes, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride given by Mr. Davis. He felt it was in improved run since Galway. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer which stated that Turnpike Trip (GB) was found to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
