J.S. McGarvey, rider of Lough Swilly Pearl trained by Noel C. Kelly, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle slipped and he pulled up.

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Carrigeen Castle, ridden by K.M. Donoghue, and trained by J.T.R.Dreaper. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer's representative concerned. K.M. Donoghue, stated that he was instructed to drop his mount out and get him to settle, creep into the race and not to hit him as he had run far too keen after jumping poorly on his last run at Navan. Thomas Dreaper, Authorised representative of J.T.R.Dreaper, trainer, confirmed the riding instructions and stated that his charge had jumped poorly after running far to keen and cut out at Navan on his last run. He felt that their charge's future lay in steeplechasing. During the viewing the video K.M. Donoghue stated that his mount settled at the rear, jumped novicey early on but began to creep into the race about one mile out. His mount passed a few horses and ran a little keen from that point until entering the straight and then tired from the second last flight and was crossed by a loose horse after the last flight which may have cost him a better placing. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Carrigeen Castle was post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations but advised K.M. Donoghue that he was getting the benefit of the doubt on this occasion and reminded him concerning his obligations to comply with the requirements of Rule 212.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Carrigeen Castle, trained by J.T.R.Dreaper, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
