Curragh 22nd May 2021

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting:

R.L. Moore replaced J.A. Heffernan on The Entertainer, trained by A.P. O'Brien (Race 2)(Intended mount a non runner)

123B GAIN Marble Hill Stakes

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined The Entertainer, trained by A.P. O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

123C Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes

At the request of the Handicapper, the Stewards received a report from Joseph G. Murphy, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Gustavus Weston, placed first, as compared with its previous run over five furlongs at Naas on 16th May. Joseph G. Murphy reported that in conjunction with his son Joseph, the training regime for their charge was changed after The Gladness Stakes here on the 17th April. Around that time it was noted that the animal had lost weight, was fretting and had the vices of being a box walker and a weaver. The animal was restabled into a larger space and gradually began to thrive and put on weight. In his opinion, the animal was probably in need of the race most recently at Naas but also appreciated the extra trip today at a track where he had been victorious previously. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

123D Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas

The Stewards interviewed R.P. Cleary, rider of Mac Swiney, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, R.P. Cleary stated that his mount kept responding to the whip and he was unaware of the number of times it was used. He accepted that he was in breach of the whip guidelines and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Cleary was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended R.P. Cleary for six racedays.

J.S. Bolger, trainer of Poetic Flare, reported to the Office of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on the 28th May, 2021 that his charge acquired a foot bruise during this race which caused him to shift left in the closing stages.

123F Betway Spring (Fillies) H'cap

R.P. Whelan, rider of Maar trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly.

123G Betway H'cap

A.C. Persse, rider of The Peckhampouncer trained by D. Broad, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was slowly away out of stalls.

At the request of the Stewards, Emma Louise Doyle, rider of Spanish Tenor, trained by Timothy Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount jumped sharply to the right on leaving the stalls.

123H Heed Your Hunch At Betway H'cap

G.P. Halpin, rider of Inca Prince trained by C.W.J. Farrell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stood on himself in the stalls and as a result of this he was slowly away.

The Stewards interviewed S.M. Crosse, rider of Liffey River (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence S.M. Crosse stated that his mount was hanging to the left and coming onto the heels of horses on two separate occasions when he used his whip for correction purposes. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that S.M. Crosse was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended S.M. Crosse for one raceday.

K.J. Condon, trainer of Colfer Kay, reported to the Office of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board that his charge was found to be lame post race.
