259A Clonmel Supporters Club (F) M'dn

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr D. Maher, that D.J Gilligan, rider of A Shin Undine, presented himself to weigh out showing three pounds overweight where a possible two pounds overweight had already been declared under Rule 195. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he was unable to shed the last half pound. J.A. Stack, trainer of Shin Undine, attended this enquiry. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards did not consider that there were exceptional circumstances to allow D.J. Gilligan to ride at three pounds overweight and informed J.A. Stack that an alternative rider should be sought. The Stewards found D.J. Gilligan to be in breach of Rule 195 (vii) and having taken his previous record into consideration, they suspended him for three racedays. Furthermore, under the provisions of Rule 154(v), the Stewards referred D.J. Gilligan to the Medical Officer for consideration of a review of that rider's Minimum Riding Weight. The Stewards granted J.A. Stack permission to replace D.J. Gilligan with J. Coen on his charge Shin Undine.

The Stewards requested a report from D. K. Weld, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Silent Prayer (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent run at Galway when finishing last of fifteen runners. Patrick O'Brien, Authorised representative for D.K. Weld, reported that their charge ran in her first handicap at Galway where the soft ground and riding tactics did not suit her and she failed to stay the trip, whereas today she reverted back to a maiden, raced on fast ground, was up with the pace racing over a shorter trip and had the application of a visor for the first time. In his opinion, these were contributing factors to the improved performance. Having considered the explanation the Stewards noted the content of the report.

259B Slievenamon M'dn

The Stewards informed a representative of Gerard O'Leary, trainer, that their charge True Artist may be liable for a suspension should he repeat today's behaviour where he refused to race.

C.D. Hayes, rider of True Artist trained by Gerard O'Leary, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount refused to race when the stalls opened.

B.M. Coen, rider of Raleigh Bridge (FR) trained by Gerard O'Leary, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that he had to check his mount in the straight.

S.D. Bowen, rider of Invincible Ourse trained by David Kenneth Budds, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left up the straight.

259D Clonmel H'cap

Jessica Maye, rider of Coill Na Sionainne trained by W. McCreery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that her mount was squeezed up about one furlong from the finish.

J.A. Heffernan, rider of One Small Step trained by Kevin Thomas Coleman, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was denied a clear run.

W.J. Lee, rider of Ms Eagleton trained by Miss Hilary McLoughlin, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left from the top of the hill.

A.J. Slattery, rider of Dare To Flare trained by Andrew Slattery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stood in the starting stalls and later in the race, hung right in the straight.

Amy Jo Hayes, rider of Strikeback (FR) trained by J. Morrison, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that her mount was slowly away out of the starting stalls.

The Stewards enquired into an incident about one furlong from the finish involving Coill Na Sionainne, ridden by Jessica Maye, One Small Step, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, Dartington, ridden by C.T. Keane, Ms Eagleton, ridden by W.J. Lee, and Dare To Flare, ridden by A.J. Slattery where it appeared that interference occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In her evidence, Jessica Maye stated that a gap opened for her mount to challenge but it closed from the inside. C.T. keane stated that his mount was a beaten horse at this point and got tightened from both sides. W.J. Lee stated that his mount quickened and lugged left until passed by Dare To Flare where his own mount got squeezed from both sides and he took a precautionary check. J.A. Heffernan stated that he received a bump from Kojin which unbalanced his mount. A.J. Slattery stated that his mount rolled in slightly and was corrected at a time when other horses were rolling out. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that any interference which occurred was accidental in nature, and they took no further action.

259E St. Patrick's Well H'cap

Siobhan Rutledge, rider of Smaoineamh Sile (GB) trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that her mount ran keen into the first bend.

J.M. Sheridan, rider of Mosaaheb (GB) trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got no run from about four furlongs out.

D.J Gilligan, rider of The Alpha Man trained by Seamus G. O'Donnell, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was short of room coming down the hill.

J.A. Powell, rider of Dazzling Spirit trained by Thomas Mullins, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount edged left when she hit the front.

259F Tipperary Perpetual Cup H'cap

The Stewards fined Ronan M.P. McNally, trainer €65 for failing fit the declared cheek pieces to The Jam Man, prior to entering the parade ring.

T.P. Madden, rider of Only Sky trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount missed a step approaching the road.

259G John Thomas McNamara Series (QR) H'cap

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Imperial Choice, trained by C.Byrnes, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.

The Stewards interviewed Mr H.E. Sexton, rider of Dixon Line (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, Mr H.E. Sexton stated that his mount was responding to the whip and accepted that through misjudgement he had exceeded the whip guidelines. He apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr H.E. Sexton was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr H.E. Sexton for three racedays.

The Stewards requested a report from John C. McConnell, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Room To Roam, placed first, as compared with its recent form under the Rules of Racing. John C. McConnell reported that his charge previously won under the Rules of Racing at Dundalk in 2016. He added that his charge had been ungenuine and ran over fences recently which in his opinion may have sweetened him for an improved run today. He added that he had no other explanation for this surprise victory. Having considered the explanation, the Stewards noted the content of the report.
