At the request of the Stewards, J.W. Kennedy, rider of Hermann Clermont (FR), trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a respiratory noise during the entire race.

The Stewards received a report from the IHRB Veterinary Officer that Ballybaun Star, placed first, was observed wearing a tongue strap when presented for examination post race, this piece of equipment having not been declared under Rule 194. The Stewards enquired into this matter and called Thomas Gibney, trainer of Ballybaun Star, for an explanation. Thomas Gibney admitted the offence and stated that he applied the tongue strap to his charge as the gelding had always worn one and it would a requirement because of the animals wind. He added that he thought that he had declared the tongue strap and only realised his error when it was brought to his attention after the race. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Thomas Gibney was in breach of Rule 194 (f) by fitting a tongue strap to Ballybaun Star which was not declared under Rule 194 and wearing it in the race. In accordance with the provisions of Rule 194(h) and using their powers under Rules 14 (i) & (ii), the Stewards fined Thomas Gibney €400.

139C Monroes John Monroe Memorial (M) Hcp Hdl

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Gjoumi (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Stewards interviewed C.D. Maxwell, rider of Two Shoe Tom, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, C.D. Maxwell admitted that he had exceeded the limit allowed for the use of the whip under the whip guidelines but explained that the first few hits were applied to stop his mount rolling off the final bend before the roadway. He added that he took a fresh hold and his mount ran straight to the finish. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that C.D. Maxwell was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R10(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended C.D. Maxwell for one raceday.

139D Portwest H'cap H'dle

J.P. O'Sullivan, rider of Galon De Vauzelle (FR), trained by P.J. Rothwell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount slipped up independently on the first bend.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Glenabo Bridge, trained by Oliver McKiernan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

139E2 FBD H'cap H'dle

The Stewards interviewed D.P. Maxwell, rider of Sphagnum, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, D.P. Maxwell admitted that he had misjudged the amount of times that he had used his whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.P. Maxwell was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned D.P. Maxwell on this occasion.

At the request of the Stewards, S.D. Torrens, rider of No Logic, trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount fell on the flat in running when clipping the heel of Eddies Pride which in his view had moved onto his racing line.

Shane Fenelon, rider of Nicola's Fancy trained by John Joseph Hanlon, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was badly hampered by the fall on the flat of No Logic.

The Stewards enquired into an incident on the flat after the third last hurdle involving No Logic, ridden by S.D. Torrens and Eddies Pride, ridden by R.P. Geoghegan, where No Logic fell in running. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, S.D. Torrens stated that he was keeping out off the used ground and about three parts of a lenght down on Eddies Pride, when that animal rolled in onto his racing line and despite his quick reaction to avoid a heel, he clipped the heels of Eddies Pride causing him to fall in running. R.P. Geoghegan stated that his mount was racing very keen and the race was very congested at that point. He did not believe that he made any deviation of course. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action but did advise R.P. Geoghegan to ride with more awareness.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that No Logic trained by John C. McConnell was noted to be injured post race.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Unlaoised trained by Nigel Thomas Slevin was noted to have blood at both nostrils post race possibly as a result of colliding with the wing of a hurdle when running out.

The Stewards reviewed an incident in the back straight where it appeared Glenmalure Lodge, ridden by J.P. O'Sullivan, ran short of room. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
