The Raceday Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Ms. T. O'Meara, that C.M. Quirke, rider of Seskin Flyer, trained by Patrick Carey, had presented himself at scales at 2 lbs overweight when attempting to weigh out. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. In his evidence, Patrick Carey stated that he was satisfied for his charge to carry 2 lbs overweight if permission was granted. C.M. Quirke stated that he had no difficulty with this weight in general, but he believed that he had made a miscalculation when using his own scales at home. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that C.M. Quirke was in breach of Rule 198 (vii)(a) by weighing out with overweight of 2 lbs where such overweight had not been declared under Rule 195 (i). Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Raceday Stewards fined C.M. Quirke €150 on this occasion. Furthermore, they allowed C.M. Quirke to ride Seskin Flyer.
