The Raceday Stewards received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer, Ms. Nicola O' Connor, that Thetys, trained by A.J. Martin was presented with what appeared to be a vene puncture of the left jugular vein with associated swelling and traces of blood. Evidence was heard from Mrs. Cathy O'Leary, Authorised Representative for the trainer and from MS. O'Connor. Ms. O'Leary, stated that she consulted with the trainer and he confirmed that Duphalyte was administered to the animal the previous evening by their own Veterinary Surgeon, which accounted for the puncture wound. Ms. O'Connor, stated that in her Veterinary opinion, the wound appeared to be more recent and showed photographic evidence which was examined by the Raceday Stewards. Having considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Thetys under the provisions of Rule 87(vii)and ordered that samples be taken for analysis. Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards referred the matter to a Senior Racing Official for further investigation without prejudice.

The Raceday Stewards received a request from E. McNamara, trainer of Alpesh Amin, to substitute the nominated rider C.P. McNamara, with M. M. McDonagh(5) as the nominated rider was stood down following a fall. The Raceday Stewards considered the request and asked the trainer to nominate a more like for like rider if possible or provide a valid reason for permission. The trainer stated that he wished for M.M. McDonogh to take up the ride as he was very familiar with the animal having previous ridden it on the track and had also schooled it recently. Having considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied to allow the request on this occasion under the provisions of Regulation 3.

065F J.J. Kavanagh & Sons H'cap H'dle

Mr W.T. Cronin, rider of Cahirmee, trained by Brian O'Keeffe, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stopped quickly and subsequently pulled up.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference after the final hurdle involving Magic Conqueror, ridden by Mr Alan O'Sullivan, placed second, and Kings Halo, ridden by D.E. Mullins, placed first, where it appeared interference had taken place. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Mr. Alan O' Sullivan, stated that he received interference twice after the final hurdle from his outside causing his mount to become unbalanced. D.E. Mullins, stated that his mount drifted right, but felt he was always holding the advantage on the run to the line. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Kings Halo had caused interference to Magic Conqueror they were not satisfied that he had improved his finishing position as a result of this interference, so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They were, however, of the opinion that D. E. Mullins was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended him for three Racedays.

065G Storm The Stars EBF (M) INH Flat Race

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after the start involving Noriska De La Mare (FR), ridden by Mr A.P. Ryan and Wyoming Baby, ridden by Miss A.L. Fitzgibbon where it appeared Noriska De La Mare manoeuvred right taking the ground of Wyoming Baby. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Mr. A.P. Ryan stated that he thought he was clear of the horses on his inner but on viewing the video evidence he accepted that he had made a misjudgment and caused interference. Miss A.L. Fitzgibbon stated that her mount stumbled badly when Noriska De La Mare crossed her. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found Mr. A.P. Ryan was in breach of Rule 214 in that they had ridden carelessly, and having considered his record they suspended him for 2 racedays.
