271D Irish Stallion Farms EBF (M) H'cap H'dle

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident after the third last hurdle involving Fairyhill Run, ridden by L. Quinlan, unplaced, and Something Abouther, ridden by M.P. Walsh, placed fifth, where it appeared that Something Abouther got tight for room on the railing. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. M.P. Walsh stated that he landed after the third last and was only a neck down when racing beside L. Quinlan, who he felt had deliberately rode to close his gap and tighten him to the rail. He further stated that he had called out to L. Quinlan and felt he was fully aware that things were getting tight, but he continued to squeeze him up. L. Quinlan stated that M.P. Walsh was never beside him and was not entitled to go where he did. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that L. Quinlan was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden improperly. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Raceday Stewards suspended L. Quinlan for 7 racedays.

The Raceday Stewards received a report from Mr. Brendan Madden I.H.R.B. Security, that John Patrick Ryan trainer, had entered the Jockey's changing room and exchanged words with M.P. Walsh rider, following the running of the fourth race. Evidence was heard from Mr. Brendan Madden and Mr. Michael Doyle I.H.R.B. Scales Assistant, John Patrick Ryan trainer, Ms. Gillian Ryan (witness called by the trainer) and M.P. Walsh rider. Having considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards accepted the trainer's apology for confronting M.P. Walsh in the Jockey's changing room and the manner in which he did and advised him that a reoccurrence of this nature would be taken very seriously and dealt with accordingly.
