The Stewards interviewed D. O'Brien, rider of Ruby Gates, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D. O'Brien was in breach of R10(3)(b) by the unnecessary hitting of his horse after its chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone and consequently suspended him for 3 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration. Mrs Ann Marie O'Brien, authorised representative of A.P. O'Brien, Master of D. O'Brien, attended this enquiry.

The Stewards enquired into the fall of Rolanna, ridden by N.G. McCullagh approximately one mile from the finish. As N.G. McCullagh was unable to offer any evidence owing to he being detained under medical care, the Stewards sought reports from riders D. O'Brien and Julie Burke who were riding immediately behind him. Both riders reported that Rolanna ridden by N.G. McCullagh jinked to the right and collided with Gibson Park for no apparent reason and did so independently. Having considered the reports and viewed a recording of the incident, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was independent and therefore no blame could be apportioned to any other rider.
